Question How To Shift Diagram

Wasn't really sure where to put this, but this seemed adequate. I am looking for a series of pictures with hands and the stick-shift for a friend of mine. It shows which way to have your hand facing with each shift for when you are driving hard to avoid a mis-shift. Even though this is for a friend, I could probably use the help as well since I just performed a mis-shift

Does anyone even know what I am talking about? The description seemed a little vague even to me

from first to second you have your thumb pointed up and you pull back towards your body from second to third you put your palm of your hand at the end of hte shifter and push strait up and from third to fourth you put your thumb pointing down and push back that way if you miss a gear you go to 6th and not second...thats about it

Put a T handle on it and give her hell! That actually solved all my problems, but I am sure some will beg to differ that they like them...

Wtf, people need a diagram on how to shift? Jesus, if you can't push a stick 3 or 4 inches with any degree of accuracy, get off the road

Yeah I put my thumb over the top of the shift **** and then the rest of my hand on around the right side I never "backhand" or "misty-indie backbone double flip" my shifter, just shift like you normally do....except faster.

Chill man...hahaha. Me and my friend just had a little debate over something silly and this was caught up in the midst of it. I was just wanting to show him how some people avoid mis-shifting. And that little part about me needing it was just a joke...I did mis-shift, yes, but it was on a bumpy road and I just happened to hit a little pothole when I was shifting from third to fourth and went into second instead. No big deal...I'm replacing the bent pushrod from my mistake Wednesday. I realize it could've been much worse, but I'm not a perfect person...**** happens

Positioning your hand as shown in the pictures is part of knowing how to shift...

If my arm is positioned wrong, I would elbow myself in the chest, not that I have, but I could see how it would happen. The posts were talking about how you should pull the shifter towards you on the 1-2 so you don't go 1-4, and I said pulling towards you could cause short people to elbow their chests.

"dag um man... just slap dat litl ol stick around lik it aint no ting!!!"
"dare aint nuttin to it du huh... what is you ...slwo???"

A note to those telling this guy hand position doesn't matter... If YOU knew what shifting quickly looked like, you would know it REALLY matters..

I think I saw this guide when I was younger as that's exactly how I shift these days. I haven't thought much about shifting but when you follow those techniques, you are almost guaranteed to develop a kind of muscle memory for each gear, especially the 5-4 and 3-2 downshift.
