Tremec vs. Borg Warner T-56's
I was wondering which transmission is the better of the two. i know most 6-spd f-body cars came with the Tremec as a standard option, but there was a Borg Warner T-56 as a "special" option that some could get, correct?
i was wondering what the true difference is between the two, and which one is best, because when i was looking to buy my 2nd camaro the dealer told me it had a heavy duty tranny, so i ran the RPO codes and it showed borg warner ?!?! I was just wondering if i passed up something good, or if i left trouble in the dust?

I've rebuilt both, and honestly, I see no difference. I've seen busted up B-W's, I've seen busted up Tremecs. They all fix the same to me.
The only minor difference enters in to play with the paper vs fiber backed blocker rings. Earlier transmissions (B-W) had the paper backed rings. They changed over to fiber (some call it "carbon fiber", I don't know if that's a misnomer or not, but it's black, looks like carbon, looks like fiber - but it doesn't look like anything special to me ) somewhere along the way. Supposedly it wears better than the hard paper backing material. Rebuild kits may "tout" their "carbon fiber blocker rings", but they don't even make the paper ones any more. You can't get them. So duh, they're all "carbon fiber".
Strength? IMO they use all the same parts. Is the Hecho in Mexico Tremec weaker than the B-W? I don't think so. They break the same.

Yep. I've got 3 M6 cars and other than the stamping on the side of the case, I've never noticed any significant differences.

Never been apart either.
Just some useless information.

Borg Warner is a huge company, I do HVAC work and they make parts for big a/c units too, occasionally we'll remove an old Borg Warner a/c unit from someones house. And the name tag on it is stamped, colered, etc just like it is on transmissions.

I thought Tremec manufactured T-56 transmissions for Borg-Warner as well as other companies. Borg Warner just stamped the parts with their brand name. No biggie, this is done all the time in every industry. Example: Samsung makes LCD monitors for Dell, IBM, HP etc. etc.
