Default what is wrong with my clutch

I recently picked up an 01 zo6, and after beating on it a few times it doesn't like to go into 3rd gear when shifting hard. The shifter goes into the 3rd gear slot but will not engage. I have to take it out of gear and put it backin gear nice and gentle for it to grab. But why would it only do this in 3rd gear.

the fact that it only happens going into third makes me believe its SOMETHING to do with the tranny.....i dont think it would be the clutch.....but thats just my opinion. Hopefully someone else will chime in here and help.

Without a feed line drill mod it can produce the problem you have . Mine would enable a 1-2 shift but restrict a quick 2-3 shift.

I vote bent fork or broken keys causing the outer slider to hang up. Common for an abused tranny.

if it goes into gear normally, but doesnt want to go in after a fast 1-2 shift, then its the restrictor in the line screwing with you...

if it does it all the time, then its a internal trans issue. probly bent fork.

when shifting normally it goes in everytime, but on occasion when I do a fast 2-3 shift is when the problem occurs.

is that restrictor issue a quick fix, or does it require a lot of work. that would be my first attempt at resolving this problem. I want to stay away from tearing down the trans until I need to.

do a search for the term "drill mod" on this board, and you'll find a half dozen how-tos.

basically, GM put a restrictor in the line. because of this, when you release the pedal, all the fluid doesnt come back. if you follow one shift with another (1-2 then the 2-3) the clutch doesnt fully disengage, and its a total bitch to get it in gear.
if you take the line off and drill this restrictor out, it helps.

I heard of the drill mod, so this could be the problem with my clutch.

thanks.

Didn't 01 Zo6's come with steel shift forks? Kinda hard to bend those puppies if they are indeed steel and not alum.

Did you upgrade your slave and master cylinders, and do the drill mod?
