Question ATTENTION 6-Speed Conversions!!

I recently swapped my automatic with a T56 6-Speed. After just a couple weeks it fouled a set of spark plugs and began to detonate or "ping". The spark plugs are a bright silver color. I put a brand new set in and cut quite a bit of timing and it did OK for a couple weeks and then burned up this new set and started "pinging" again. Has anyone had this same problem after swapping to a 6-speed? Any idea why is it detonating (it's not running lean, it is a little rich) and getting so hot in the cylinders and frying all the plugs? Thanks

Theres a difference in the advance between the A4 tune and M6 tune. Did you reflash the PCM with an M6 tune?

Actually there's no difference in timing, but if you keep the A4 program it will keep the P/N timing as if the car wouldn't move.

I did flash the computer using HPTuners. Car runs rich, knock sensors are working. But why is it detonating and eating spark plugs? Is it something in the wiring from the computer to the coil to the plugs? Does something need to be grounded or a circuit closed?

Where you plug tips white? If they are then mine is doing the same thing. I swapped mine over about 30K ago and ran an A4 tune for about 10K with no problems. When I pulled my plugs a few months ago they where pure white at the ends. I put a new set of T55's in there and will pull them in a few weeks to check. If they are still burning hot I will try TR6's to cool the spark down a little. Also A4 tune and 2.73 gears in a M6 = 6 grand clutch dump and nothing but bog. hehehe

What else did you change with the tune? Something got adjusted differently than just the swap needed conversions. If you are rich at idle, and lean while driving then something could be wrong in the tune, or could be a totally different issue. Have you checked everything visual with the engine such as vacuum leaks etc? Mine was lean as hell for a little while because of a vacuum leak in the PCV tube, got that fixed and car runs great.
