Post RAM powergrip gone after 7k

well on the way home from the track last night, i went to do a burnout, and it started to then i hit the brake it just bogged down and killed the motor. then i went to drive it this morning, and it wont do a burnout and it slipping like crazy.i wish it would have lasted longer.im thinking insteaad of dumping the clutch at the track and feathering it has a lot to do with it wearing out so quickly.

I love these threads. It never ceases to amaze me how people get a clutch, beat the HELL out of it and then complain that it only lasted 7000 miles. What do you expect? Your racing the car, your doing burn outs, your doing god knows what else. All those things will wear the clutch! Give me a new clutch, no matter what brand and I can kill it in an afternoon of drag racing. Get it through your heads people. A clutch is a wear item. If you race and drive aggressively, be prepared to replace the clutch often. It’s really that simple.

The disks would be new but the two metal surfaces that clamp on them need to flat and true.

I had a PowerGrip HD-T (upgraded 26 tooth spline setup) survive 120+ passes holding 470-480HP for 120 passes which I thought was very good but that was only 6K odometer miles, it is how many track passes you make that makes a bigger diff. I had mine rebuilt but switched to a more agressive 6 puck disk, that won't work on the street too well but I don't care, I have a 99 SS now for a street car so it will get the standard powergrip next.

I saw mention of slippping the clutch, the idea being to save other parts from failing in the rear, helping with traction issues or whatever the strategy for doing that is. It doesn't matter what clutch you use but if you are slipping it instead of sidestepping it, it will wear out much quicker, you are heating it up more than you need and it might be better to deal with the rear or whatever needs to be beefed up to handle a hard hook or you will just be burning up clutches instead.

All GM T56s have 1 1/8" (1 5/32" actually, but most call it 1 1/8") 26 spline input shafts. As to the Vipers. The Ford Cobras have the "course" spline inputs, and they may even be 1 1/16x10 like the old T5s. Back in the 60s most GMs used 1 1/8x10 spline.

He didn’t beat the hell out of it trust me, he might have slipped it some at the track but he didn’t drag race that much this year, or do close to any burnouts for that matter ex the one he mentioned, trust me I have tried to make him do tons. The person you are describing is me, and I will not complain when my clutch breaks, I have 50-60 passes on it going down almost every week for a totaling 10 passes a night, 4-5 k clutch slips, 360's, burnouts. He never once complained about it not lasting because of workmanship he even said that maybe it was because he slipped it at the track, when he went. He didn’t start the thread say o F ram they sold me a faulty clutch bla, bla. Don’t be that guy that jumps down someone’s neck for no reason, kind of a dick move if you ask me. JMO

thanks jon, havent had much time to reply lately. but yes i know clutches are going to wear out, and jon is right. i havent beat on the car that much this year at all.

04SNAKE said somthing abotu side stepping what is that?

i understand abotu the rear. i really want to upgrade, but money is quite tight lately.
dont get me wrong, i loved the clutch while it worked. i wouldnt mind getting another one, but my dad on the other hand doesnt believe me that the clutch could have gone this fast cuz of me slipping it.
