In the box the clutch assem. came in, there was a small piece of paper saying that there is a shim that is included that is supposed to go in between the slave cylinder and the transmission to get the slave closer to the clutch by .055. The trouble is, there was no shim in the box. Has anyone heard and/or used the shim before? And if so, the clutch came directly from SPEC, does anyone have an e-mail address for them?

I recieved a shim as you describe, but I think it is only if you don't have an adjustable master cylinder. I did not use it...

I think that's the first horror story I've heard about the spec clutches. Seems like everyone else has been more then pleased with them. I was fixing to order one any day now.

I would get rid of that clutch, it is junk, I know first hand, also I have read a handful of people that have had nothing but problems with clutch. But who knows maybe youll get lucky, I had the stage 3 with the kevlar disk. A spring broke off my clutch disk, one of the six that goes around the input shaft. And one broke in the pressure plate assy. causing me to have a voided warranty now at the dealership. Yes i did get a refund on partial of my money but that did cause me to get my warranty back on my trans. Just saying beware.

the shim is if you have a resurfaced pressure plate, but will work fine with the shim and a new pressure plate, the engaugement point will just be a little lower that way
spec has worked great for me, the only s3 i reccomend is the carbon though.

Hey thanks for the replies so far guys. Along with the SPEC stage 3-carbon clutch kit, I went with the new slave cylinder and the Mcleods adj. master cylinder. I just didn't know if I needed the .055 shim or not.

I had a spec stage 3 clutch that stopped disengaging after a week of light use had GM go through the trans to fix the gears that got screwed up put all new hydraulics on the car with the drill mod done to the master cylinder before star would even talk to me about a new clutch then they sent me the old style zo6 pressure plate and it slips with street tires so i am not to happy with star.

stephen, what did gm find wrong with the spec clutch?
sounds to me like the pressure plate bolts backed out, common happening when the bolts arent torqued or loctited properly. An install error if that is the case, not the fault of spec.
If the trans is screwed, that means you drove on it when the car was not driveable, not their fault either.
If they sent you the incorrect pressure plate, it should have been sent back, not installed in the car.
sorry to hear about the troubles, but spec is a stand up company.

Okay I have a few qestions. I talked to some people at a reputable Motorsports Co. and they told me I would not need a new master cylinder and that my 2000 factory one would do fine. They said I would only need the ZO6 slave cylinder. They also said people are wasting there money getting the adj. masters.. So what exactly is the benefit of the Mcloud Adj. Master? I was also looking into getting a SPEC Stage 3 carbon and am wondering if I am going to be having problems with this shim deal. As far as the Pressure Plate goes, does SPEC send the ZO6 PP's in there packages? And I didn't even know they updated the ZO6 PP. Exactly how bad is the one in my 2000 then? Anyone know the benefits of a Stage 4 vs. Stage 3 and if they make the Stage 4 in a Carbon? Can anyone explain the differences between the Stage 3 Carbon and the Stage 4 Ceramic? My car is 95% street driven, 4% street-raced a 1% drag raced. What would be best for me with 420rwhp? Thanks- Mike W.
EDIT: Some people are telling me to forget SPEC altogether and go with a CARTEK kit. What do you guys think about that?

Right now I'm looking for a clutch and it's between the new spec #sc093 and the mcleod rev lok2 The ram is a good clutch but a bit too pricey for me. The new spec sounds like a good clutch. Alot of sponsors have it on their cars and are happy with it. I didn't think you needed shims with the adjustable master though???

give dave norton a call and he will set you up with the right clutch for your application, their website is www.specpwr.com
my stage 4 ceramic is less chattery than the stage 3 carbon, so i say go for that one. i drive mine on the street 95% as well and i got the s4 ceramic with goals of 600rwhp in mind.
