What happens is the slave gets used to certain pressures and the seals adapt to that. With the street twin or any other clutch the pressure will cause the seals to break loose. Anyway I had a nice bellhousing full of fluid when my seal went loose.

A new slave costs about $100. A new throwout alone costs upwards of $80.

Also, use the regular GM DOT3 fluid. Using a synthetic will introduce all sorts of hell. I have to replace my master and slave (my next step now I think) because the synthetic fluid is causing some really radical differences in pedal pressure. I think that's caused by the seals on the master going due to the fluid. I've bled it again and it still sucks nuts!

Best thing IMO, replace the slave while you're at it.

Save yourself the hassle and replace the master and slave cylinders. I didn't and ended up doing it the next week, it sucked to say the least. Also don't forget to do the drill out mod.

I have the McLeod Adjustable Master.

So also get a new throwout bearing? Is the throwout the same thing as the slave cylinder? I'm new to the M6 world <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Thanks <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Get a new slave cylinder, it will come with a throwout bearing on it. The throwout bearing snaps into the slave, so you want to take that whole unit out. It's held into the transmission by a couple bolts. It simply unbolts and slides out.

You can but you will be replacing it very soon. I have looked at the treet twin for about two years before I boght mine. What I seen was the people that just put in the clutch and not the new slave or master had problems. When I installed mine I replaced everything! So far no problems.

I have a 2001 Z28 with 22,000 miles on it. Will I need to change my slave or just the throwout bearing?
