Default Vibration/rattle under load on accel, any ideas?

Guys,

Since I did my LS7 clutch, under load, the car gets a pretty crappy "rattle" that you can feel and hear in the car. You can really feel it come through the shifter. I can make a 2nd gear but and the second I slam 3rd it will start. It is odd but I am not sure what could cause it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Some of you guys got to have some ideas or suggestions as to what could be causing this. I am curious as to what could be causing this myself.

That wont matter, I can be at high rpms and its fine, mostly happens under high load. Did it since the first time I jumped on it. As soon as it hit 3rd gear it started to do this. If I have high enough load in 2nd it will do it too. It is not a vibration, but more of a rattle/chatter almost.

okay, so you didn't get this balanced?? I remember in my fathers Chevelle bought the clutch assembly as a "balanced" assembly from centerforce, put it in the same way it came, and had a terrible vibration. We took it out, and had it balanced at a shop, and it was soo off. Centerforce = Junk

No I just bought it from GM. Like I said its not a vibration like it is out of balance. It is kind of hard to explain. The way it sounds through the shifter is like I have some bolts loose in the handle and its a fast vibration. Under high load you can somewhat feel it in the car. I would think if it was out of balance it would happen at high rpm all the time. I can hold the motor at 5k when tuning and it wont do it, but if it has high load at 5k it will. Its possible it could be a balancing problem, but the way it happens doesnt seem likely to me, you know?

I've had this noise since I got my car too, it's a loose marbles or can of nails rolling around kind of sound from the shifter. It's not the clutch.

I had it with my stock LS1 clutch, and I still have it with my LS7 clutch. Replaced pilot bearing, slave, clutch, flywheel, pressure plate (throwout bearing with new slave).

It's still there. It's more prevalent for me when it's NOT under load. This leads me to belive that it's more than likely some kind of bearing on the mainshaft or something internal to the transmission that "rattles" when not under load. I can also amplify the sound in fifth gear if it's under load and I "push" on the shifter ie leave my hand on it after shifting to fifth.

My car will redline just nicely and shift well except when cold so I'm not worried about it much.

Since the LS7 clutch setup weights more than the stock setup you probably have to much clearance in the transmission. The only way to fix this is to tear it down and check the clearance. If it is shifting fine you should be okay for a while. This is the only thing I can think of that would cause a vibration like you are describing.

Thanks,
Amber

So, in the end, even with a new clutch, there may be something in the tranny that needs some work?

Thanks Amber

eh, it'll be ok for now lol. Only problems I have shifting are the clutch not disengaging fast enough. I dont drive the car a whole lot so I will take it easy

I can't wait for the day when I don't have to drive mine much...I'll be getting a new ride either this year or next to retire this one to garage queen duty. Already been down the transmission road...at least it didn't cost as much as my rear end.

Yeah I want to get the tranny done, but I am the type that really wants to try new things myself (unfortunately lol).

Don't know why I didn't consider the tranny being the issue. Either way I am down to help you rebuild it.

Sounds good lol. Main reason I didnt think of the tranny is the simple fact that this happened RIGHT after the clutch install and never before.
