stock clutch with 400 rwhp and a 12 bolt?? how long till it pops
alright, my mods are in my sig, i made 407.4 rwhp. im sick of doing my 2.3 60 ft times, so ive decided to buy a 12 bolt so i dont have to launch like a little girl.
i want to be able to do like 3500-4500 dumps. so i can get a good 1.6-1.7 60 ft time, thats my goal anyways.
my car has 42000 KM on it, 2001 ss. clutch feels perfectly fine right now and has never been hurt. not many slips, and only 1 or 2 low rpm dumps.
how long would it hold up to higher rpm dumps?
should i just invest in a better clutch when i do my rearend?

Frankly I think you'll start tearing it up pretty fast, being an 01 you have the ls6 setup already, still not too much better over the ls1 clutch setup.
I think upgrading clutch would be a good step for you, now other then being able to hold those clutch dumps what else do you do with the car daily it or just weekend warrior?
Sadly most of the clutches seem to be hit or miss I would start looking at a few like Ram, Spec maybe if you are willing to give up a little track power for better street manners an LS7 setup.
Really only you know what you are doing with the car so unless you want to add some details it's kind of hard to say what clutch would be best. But as far if you should do it I feel you should.

the car was kind of built to be a daily driver, but really its not. say a weekend driver, i only put on 4000 km's last summer. so its not out too much. im lucky to go 700 km a month.

If you don't go to the track alot you should be o.k for a while. My stock clutch was fine on the street untill I started going to the track with it. The best the stock clutch would hold was a 11.5 @ 119mph with a 1.62 60ft. If you just drive on the street and don't use a full slick at the track it should last

About 7000 miles on my LS6 clutch and It is toast. I am just over 400 RWHP. I do 6000 rpm clutch dumps on ET streets with a 12 bolt. I cut a 1.58 60' on it and you could smell the clutch after the run. I only have 10 passes on the clutch but I drive the **** out of the car and it's time for a Cartek clutch.

I had the same problem while back. But mine was the pressure plate would not hold & the motor would power thru the clutch at high rpm.
The disc was still there when I pulled it out, not gone lol.
Your gonna need a good performance clutch if your gonna race it.
I tend to suggest the more expensive clutches, I like doing them once & have them last for a while.
That & I lauch off a 2 step 5K+

I have a 2001 ws6 m6. with that much hp ur clutch will begin to slip. I was running 418rwhp/389rwtq on stock clutch till it started to slip on the track I only had about 3 runs. on the street I had no problems cause I wasn't power shifting or dumping the clutch. I actually ran faster with stockclutch then I do now. I got a Ram clutch and slave cylinder now. so all I get on the track is spinning wheels. I'm running M/T et streets but dont do burnout's cause I know the first time it hooks at 5k clutch dump, there goes my weak 10 bolt.
the way u can tell if u have a Ls6 clutch is by removing ur cap from clutch reservoir and look under it. if it has a 00 then u have the Ls1, if it has 01 then u have the Ls6 clutch. either way stock clutch will start to slip on power shifts or dumping it. replace it.
