How long did your aftermarket clutch last?????
I'm so sick and tired of changing clutches it's f-en pittyful. This is going to be my 4th clutch in less than 4 years. Went with a Spec 3 first and it lasted almost a year with 14k no track runs.. My next one was a Ram Powergrip and that lasted 10 months with 10k and maybe 8 passes before the spring blew out. This last one, a Textralia is on its 10th month and is going too now with 9k on it, with a pass or two and that sucks the most because of the price. Have no clue where to go from here. Is it normal for an aftermarket clutch to last less than a year? I'm throwin about 400 rwhp.

As for the first reply. I broke it in for 500 miles and only lauched hard on the passes I made at the track ( about 8). It's an everyday driver.
And whos the guy with the clutch that lasted over 3 years???????? I'd like to know which clutch it was.

im on about 2 years with my spec 3... I ave done autocross 2-3 times (5-8, 2 min runs per track day) And about 15 passes at the drag (didnt launch over 3k). Only difference is i have an aluminum flywheel. pretty much everything else is the same...

I would call textrialla, there really good on helping with that low of HP(no offense,about what I have) you should be getting more than 9,000 miles. Have you done all the installs?

Damn does theses cars eat clutchs this bad man I sure hope not im working on my stock clutch with 98k miles . Going to get the RAM HD 900 when i do the swap, but damn if there not going to last long im just wasting money. And im not going to pay $1100 buck for a clutch to go out in 10 months. For $1100 that bitch better last till the wheels fall off.

Clutch life is based all on the install, break-in, and not slipping the clutch. 500 mile break-in seems a little to fast for an aftermarket clutch. I drove mine about 1k before even thinking about WOT.

Many reports of textrialla with less than 50miles of break in and lots of miles and clutch dumps and doing fine.
Could depend on the quality control of the clutches too...

No offense, but I would look hard at the way I drive if I were you. My mustang has 72,000 miles on it. I drove it fairly hard and replaced the stock clutch at 55,000 miles voluntarily. I dropped in a SPEC stage 2 when I did my h/c/i swap and drove that combo another 17,000 miles, with occasional racing. One of my friends was in a similar situation to you. He had been though five or six clutches in his mustang. Several cars later, he still fought drivetrain breakage. The only clutch that held up to his constant racing was the SPEC stage 3, which was rated for far more power than his car was making. As a consequence, he snapped several input shafts because of the excessive clamping force. The only way he stopped eating clutches was to re-examine the way he drives. After toning things down a bit, he now has no issues.

I got a good 2 years/25,000 miles out of my Ram Powergrip at around 350-ish RWHP driving it daily, and beating on it occassionally. It could have gone longer, but I swapped it out in favor of a lighter setup. I've had my RPS in for about 6 months, and so far, so good. It has just now started to calm down on chattering, still driving it daily.

I've got somewhere around 11 or 12000 miles on my spec 3+. Daily driven in SoCal traffic, drag raced, and autoX'd on weekends. It's all about install, break in, and not slipping it or just riding it for no apparent reason like I see so many people do. On or off.

I finally pulled my old clutch with 12,000 (spec 5). I bought a new one, and come to find out that my clutch still has about 60% left on it. My iron flywheel was the one causing the slipping. I am going to put the new clutch in still and have the flywheel and clutch being balanced together and of course the flywheel is getting shaved. I can't say enough about the machine shop that is doing the work.
