Default Clutch parts

What parts should I buy to install my new clutch? Im goinbg to keep my old slave cylinder but should I pick up a new TO bearing and pilot? The pilot is only like 10$ and i think the TO is like 60$. is the To worth it to get a new one or should I just use the old one?

go ahead and get a new one, i would not suggest reusing the old one.

your new clutch did not come with one?

I'd recommend using a pilot bushing instead of the bearing. Far too many people, including myself, have had issues with the pilot bearing breaking into lots of little pieces.

Does the car come stock with a bearing or bushing? What is the difference?

the car comes stock with a bearing. the new bearing is like $10.99 ... cheap insurance, it'd be stupid not to get one.

i'd get an updated slave cylinder ('01 - '02). i blew up my stock slave cylinder after reusing it w/ a spec 3 a week after i installed it. dammit

The car comes with a pilot bearing.

You'll need a clutch alignment tool, a pilot bearing puller (I actually used a combo between an autozone one and an advance auto parts one). That sucker was a PITA to get out.

another vote for a BUSHING...my bearing was in many pieces on the last teardown. Infact Amber at T-56 rebuilds recommends the same, and she should know.

I apologize for my mis-worded statement. The car comes with a pilot bearing but it often breaks into little pieces under stress and you end up chewing up the end of your shaft. I suggest replacing it with a bushing as it's a solid piece and withstands more punishment.

Well the bearing that was in there was 100% fine after 95K miles, I just left it in the old motor and they gave me a new bearing at the dealer today so thats what im using. Now I just need a new slave cyl and a master.

You can get one from pretty much any of the autoparts stores such as NAPA, Autzone, etc. They're pretty cheap.

Another vote for the bushing. Save yourself some time and get the bushing. It will be cheaper in the long run. My bearing blew apart after 12k. You won't chew up your input shaft either.

I just bought a bronze bushing, but found that Advance carries a Nylon/Kevlar bushing. Sounds like a good idea, but for $55...I don't know. The bronze one was only like $5.

Could a chewed up pilot roller bearing cause enough 'drag' on the input shaft to make it feel like a dragging clutch or a clutch that is not disengaging all the way?

I think I might have ruined my pilot bearing by the descriptions of how easy it should have been to put in.

Yes, that's exactly what mine did. It was hard to shift and sometimes when letting the engine rpms fall with the clutch pedal down I would hear a grinding sound from the pilot bearing. When I pulled the transmission all the needle bearings had fallen out and were grinding away at the input shaft. I replaced it with the bronze bushing.

Could I try replacing my master first because I think I ruined the seals with a MityVac at 25 inches of vacuum.

My master pedal feels squishy sometimes and the more squishy it feels the worse it shifts. Sometime, though the pedal will feel firm and the shifts will be a LOT better.

I don't know if you can ruin the seals on the master with 25 inches of vacuum. I bet there's more pressure across the seals when the pedal is pushed down. But yeah, the master cylinder is easier to replace than the pilot bearing and the symptoms sound like the master. Did you replace the pilot bearing when you got your ls6 clutch? Mine had ~100000 miles on the original bearing when it gave out.

I did replace the Pilot Bearing when I installed the LS6 clutch.
Everyone said it would go in easy, but mine took probably 200 srikes on a socket to get it to seat.
