Default Clutch installs Who is doing them

Can I install a clutch myself in the garage on Jack stands. I am not that strong of a guy but I did a cam swap and all of my other mods. I dont have a mechanic that I can trust. Alwasy do things myself? Also my cutouts on the y-pipe look to be in the way.

Your exhaust will need to come off my TDs did. I don't think it is possible to do it alone unless you have a tranny stand or you some how balance it on a normal jack. It took me my dad and a jack to drop it and get it back in, it weighs some where around 135lb.

Good to know. The only thing I am worried about is the exhaust. Maybe I should get rid of that **** flowmaster while I am down there!

Wink

Just did a Clutch install with a member on this site, exhaust has to come off, if you have headers, best to invest in a set of band clamps, easier to get off the pipes, after doing this install, I have to tear it back down again. Good luck.

I have kooks long tubes and their y-pipe. I dont have to drop the exhaust. Get the car high enough and tip the trans down and out.

I would like to do it myself but im stuck alone for most installs. And I really hate gettin the car that high in the air to be able to work somewhat comfortably. But with another person And like 02NBM said a motorcycle jack would prob work nicely. We'll see when the time comes for a new one. One thing I do have is time to work on it and let it sit.

Do you think puttin the rear up on rhino ramps and Puttin jack stands under the K member would give enough clearance?

you need at least 18" from the ground to the bottom of the t56 to drop it and slide it out with or without the bellhousing attatched. if you have less youre gonna have to compress your body like a rat to move around.

i have crafstman jack stands and put them on the 3rd lip, that gave me more than enough room to pull the tranny, you dont want the car to high or its hard to lift into position.

what i use is 4 pieces of 2x12 about 2' long screwed to each other. so 4 pieces high. I have those under each wheel. So "ground" height is raised per say. At that point if I need to lift the car any higher, i feel much safer because the car is at ride height only higher of the actual ground. I'm a pro tech, so using jack stands now as opposed to my lift at work "feels" unsafe. I know it is, but i'm no longer comfortable.

Ive done them on the ground, but since I have access to lift I rather not do it that way. I always use a floor jack to take mine out. And also, I have FLP longtubes with an off road y-pipe and Ive never had to drop the exhuast with the 4L60E or the T56.

Yes, that's what I do. Hmm, last time the front was on the ramps. Doesn't matter either way.

I got the car up on jackstands and then used the two hydraulic jacks to raise and lower the tranny. It is a good idea to have a buddy to help. But it can be done on jackstands.
