Is there a site somewhere that allows you to figure out the mathematics of it all? I'm trying to decide between 4.10s and 4.30s. I want to have a nasty gear for the street but also put myself in the power as I cross the line. But not know how to calculate gear ratios to trap speeds to RPMs, I can't figure out which one. There's got to be a site out there that helps out.
Thanks,
Mike B.

I've been wondering the same thing. 4.10s or 3.73s? If no gas milage is lost, then I guess I'll go with 4.10s. But how does the stock rearend hold up with 4.10s? Especially with DRs?

i read that CARTEK is using stock GM 10 bolts w/ 4:10's and not having any issues. they are apparently doing something differant than everyone else. in a recent high performance pontiac magazine article they said they set up them up w/ 10 thousands clearance between the gears. this is supposed to allow more fluid between the gear teeth hence "cushioning" the blow of the launch. they said it is alittle more noisey than usual, but it lasts longer... i'm still having trouble deciding myself- 4:10's or 3:73's. i have heard that 4:10's have trouble hooking on the street...

IMO unless you have an agressive Heads/Cam car churning 6800+ rpm OR your running a taller tire than stock (25.6 I believe) the best gear for street/strip is 4.10s.

For a bolt-on car w/a 26 inch tire use 4.10s and h/c car probably a 4.30 or so. JMO <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
