For those of you who have changed you clutch without a lift, what did you use to hold the tranny up?

I saw some cradles that can fit onto a regular floor jack made to hold a tranny (including chains). Did you guys use one of these cradles, or did you buy a whole transmission floor jack? I am wondering how well the cradles work?

I need to replace my clutch before I install my APS TT kit.

I just let it fall on the floor if its not a far drop, put some padding on the floor to soften the drop. You can put the attachment on the jack if you want though.

I used one. They work fine, although a little less steady due to the mounting method (you have to take out the round part on your jack and put the adapter right in the mounting hole).

I use a regular floor jack w/ a piece of 4" channel welded on the pad (circle thing that spins) of the jack. Works great

Like "Yak" Said. Be a man. I dropped my Trans 4 times in the last year and I just use a Normal Floor jack. One person controls the jack and one holds the trans Centered. Last time I did my clutch (2 weeks ago) I started working on my car around 5pm and was done, showered and driving to the bar by 9pm. This was all on the floor to and Im only 21 years old. Its not to hard.

Pulled and installed it by myself. Just dropped it on my chest to pull it and bench pressed it into place to install it. I guess I got lucky because I got the input shaft engaged in the clutch disc with in a few seconds.

i refuse to crush me skull over a transmission.

i dont use a floor jack adaprer..i position myself under the bellhousing to steady the trans, then have someone lower the trans as its on a jack pad and then guide it steadily down.

Hmmm, only 100lbs. It thought it would be heavier. The last trans I pulled was a t5 from a Rustang 12 years ago. I was under the impression that a t56 would be a lot larger/heavier.

I would most likely be pulling it out by myself, ie no second set of hands. That is why I am considering getting a trans adapter or a trans jack.

I borrowed an ATV/Motorcycle jack from a buddy. It works great if you're removing or replacing the tranny by yourself. FWIW, my T56 weighed 120lbs without fluid. It may be slightly heavier than stock because it has steel shift forks and a 30 spline Viper output shaft, but not that much.

I used to have a 4l60 so a t56 feels light to me.
