Default SPEC 3+.....shocking

I'm happy but can't believe it. I finished putting in my SPEC 3+ last night and took her for a long journey (after some pedal adjust.). To my shocking surprise, I would have to say its one of the smoothest clutches I've had. That being SPEC 3, Ram Power, Tex. Not a single bit of chatter and no shifter rattle. I was expecting at least one. So needless to say I'm stoked.

One small problem. When I first started it, it could get into every gear except reverse. So I adjusted the pedal out (lucky I did the mod last week) until it would drvie fine in all gears. Pedal grabs about half way out but my clutch pedal is high in the air about 2"s further than my brake. Yes I put in the shim. What do you guys think?? Its a brand new master as well and I bleed the whole system.

thanks

only suggestion is make sure you break it in for at least a thousand miles and you will be happy with it. i know several ppl who just went the 500 miles reccomended from spec and they only laster a few thousand..i broke mine in for about 1200 miles and now i have had mine in for 8k and just pulled the trans and theres hardly and clutch dust and it still grips like it did the first day..very pleased wit it

The break in is just to seat the clutch to the flyewheel, this is well done by 500 (city) miles. But at least you know you will get 1200 more miles outta that clutch!

Well since you adjusted your master to grab higher, the rod extended the pedal longer than the brake but as long as it feels good there I would leave it. Glad you like it. I too have a 3+, it's aggressive but very streetable

Oh something else I would like to add. I have a spec 3+ as well. Before I ha McLeod single disk. Honestly when I swapped clutches, I felt almost no difference at all. Same pedal feel, same engaugement. My spec just chatters some though, the McLeod didn't, but I like the spec so far, hopefully it lasts.

My only worry is that as the clutch wears the pedal will be totally extended but the clutch will have a lot of meat left on it. I already have to push it far to engage it. Put the shim in there too.

After 100 miles or so adjust the peddle back to stock height and it will be fine. The breakin is extremely important.500 miles is not enough in most cases. We've pulled them at 5-600 miles and they are only 1/2 seated. If you break them in right they will last a very long time. We've never seen the failures people post here out of the 30+ SPECs we've done. But we stress the break in procedure to each customer.

Sounds like you do them a lot. What is your idea of breaking a clutch in?

nothing like having 3 posts with all black camaros laying rubber in a row.

If broken in properly a stage 3+ will be amazingly capable of handling high-torque while being daily driven. I appreciate the kind words and feedback. Let me know if you all have any further questions. Thanks!

I just bought a spec 3 6 puck for my '04 Ls6, and the problem I have is that the pins dont line up on the pp.....In order for it to work I have to drill the holes out so the pins will go thru, other than that the bolts line up, does that sound right? The part number is Sc093 so I know I have the right one......

Thanks,

Dustin

I say daily driving with basic slipping of the clutch from a stop. Not 4000rpm starts. Also no WOT speed shifting and try not to do any WOT runs in the gears.

As for the 3+.I find it holds well but the torque limit is about 600-650 at the wheels before it starts to slip.
