Tips for re-installing the tranny?

Tips for re-installing the tranny? I'm helping my brother put his tranny back in after a clutch install. We're using a jack to get it up in the air. We get the splines lined up, slide it in and then we have about 2" left and it won't go in any further. Do we just need another person's strength as well to guide it in?
Re: Tips for re-installing the tranny? Put a piece of 2x4 under the front of the oil pan or crank pulley and a floor jack under it. Jack up the front of the engine so that it tilts back on the motor mounts. This will give you a much better angle to stab the tranny in. I hope you guys used a clutch disk alignment stab tool to center the disk, makes the shaft much easer to go in!

Re: Tips for re-installing the tranny? Just grab the back of the tranny and jerk it around while pushing it towards the motor. I had the same problem on my first clutch install.
Re: Tips for re-installing the tranny? I just did a tranny install last weekend. Once I got the splines lined up, and slid it as far forward as me and my buddy could get it, I took a long bolt (i used one from the ac compressor), threaded it in, and used that to pull the tranny forward. It should go very very easy, if you have to put any type of effort into threading the bolt in, the splines are not lined up.

Re: Tips for re-installing the tranny? another tip that worked for me is having someone push on the clutch pedal from inside the car when you are really close, it should facilitate an easier install. at least it worked for my lt1 that way.

Re: Tips for re-installing the tranny? Ok, the input shaft is bottoming out on the lower portion of the pilot bearing's face. I think the clutch alignment tool my brother used sucks. It's not one of specific spline tools rather one of those "universal" ones that has a cone that slides down a rod to hold the disc inline w/the flywheel. Here's an example of what it looks like (the tool):

Re: Tips for re-installing the tranny? Well, this fuggin' tranny won't go in. Using a tranny jack and all. Re-aligned the disc with a proper clutch alignment tool. The splines slide in and then the tranny stops about w/an inch left. I guess my brother and I lack the upper body strength to push this thing in on our backs, right? We're only about 135 lbs each. It's really hard to get leverage to push it forward. Anyone have any tips?

Re: Tips for re-installing the tranny? We got it. Turns out the slave was busted so it wouldn't compress thus we couldn't push it into the bellhousing completely. I had a new slave in the bag lying around so we slapped it on, voila, right in.
