SO i got really discuraged.........
so i went to summit racing yesterday and i went to ask the sales floor people what kinda horse power can i get out of my 2000 3.8l camaro the guy basically laughs in my face he like why would you try to throw money into one one of those and im not all car savy or anything but i was thinking i could get my car to like 400 HP in my mind but after he said that i bought my spark pugs and left.I was really bummed the rest of the day. Does one run with V6's or know if it worth it. I am a collage kid ,insurance is a BITCH, and money comes and goes
so what im wanting to know is am i thinking way out of my league of 400hp for a v6? I looked up specs online and the stock motor pushes 200HP I be leave(correct me if im wrong)anyone know of V6 like that or around that, what kinda mods do they have and what all are they running
Thanks
Chris

true, and the way LS's are selling nowadays,,,you'd probably SAVE money buy waiting and buying a V8,,,a guy in the midwest section is selling his SC Camaro,, and its starting in the mid teens, and he even states he will lower the price as inquires come in...its almost a hard pill to swallow on how cheap these LS powered cars are going for now a days,,well,, i should say the ones that arent corvettes.

I've been looking into getting a 97-04 Regal GS to use as a winter vehical and DD, and there are some people putting down respectable numbers with them. Of course they come from the factory supercharged, while the the 3800 in your Camaro is N/A. So then you get back into the added cost of FI. I'd say save up the money you are wanting to put into your current Camaro and put it towards the purchase of an LS1 after college.

Check around on www.fullthrottlev6.com for ideas.
If you plan to keep your car for a few years, I'd look into a custom blower or turbo setup. Maybe also PM Tiago he's done a few turbo kits for 3.8's. I have a few friends who went 12's with 3.8's but that was also with converters, cams, and sometimes heads.

Exactly. Its just not worth it. And as far as being in college and money...I'm in the same boat. Living off of my savings from the summer internship lol. When I had my 95 v6 camaro it was under liability only...now I have the 98 t/a and its full coverage. Went from being 90/mo with the camaro to 120/mo with the t/a. I dont think there is any way that the v6 is better...ls1 even gets better gas mileage!

If you're a college kid, just enjoy what you have now. If its a nice car, and you enjoy it, then just throw a lid and the exhaust on there. That might cure your "mod bug" for now. After college when you are making some coin, then you can step it up. I am lucky enough to have a LS1 powered car in college, so I am sound a bit hypocritical. I can sort of feel your situation though. I have the car, but not a lot of money to put into it. I just hold onto the fact that 2 years from now I'll be able to do with the car what I really want, how I really want to. I haven't lost the drive to mod the car the 7 years I've had one, so I don't think I'll lose the spirit in 1.5 (573 days, to be exact--> I may or may not be anxious to graduate). I would listen to what has been said. You can put in a lot of money to the car and in the end have a car that is as fast as a stock LS1. In the end, you've just lost your ***, not to mention the car will really never be worth as much as the V8. I don't mean this to be degrading, as I think the way Summit treated you was ignorant on their part (degrading a new and young PAYING customer to the hobby and sport). I just think in the end, if you're looking for power, the affordability to horsepower ratio of a used LS1 F-Body is very hard to beat.
Good luck on whatever you decide. You'll enjoy it regardless.

3.8's are good motors but for 400HP your going to have to go FI. There's one guy on another board I visit and he stroked and built his 3.8 and it made approx. 300HP. all of the work cost him $6000 or so iirc. hell for that price you could buuild a REALLY nice LS1.
