I've lived in Oklahoma all my life and thinking about moving away for a change. I've got used to the same ol same ol day after day, it's very boring here. I figured this would be a good forum to ask your all's opinions about these areas. I've done some research and these five midwest cities came up on my top 10, among a few other places like Dallas, Denver, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, OKC (of course it would lol), & an hour outside NYC area... considering cost of living to income, fun metro areas, sports, & colleges. South of Chicago may be pretty neat too, but how is cost of living in that region? Snow- it's cool as long as it's not a blizzard five months out of the year. Housing- I would be renting for now. I'm in my early 20s, single, have about 50% complete of a bachelors degree in business at a public division 1 school, & my current full time job is in banking, so I'm sure any city I could find these kind of institutions if I so choose to continue that path. A city with a good music scene is always nice. Golf is a big time hobby of mine, and one of the reasons I consider the midwest is there are still decent tornadoes to chase, which is another hobby.

KC - cool city. I have a very good buddy who lives there. I like the idea of the different area of attractions... the power light district, westport, casinos, sporting events though I'm not a big fan of the teams except KU down the road.

Indy - drove through there once at night. thought it looked pretty cool. I do like the Colts, and I hear it's a good place to be single lol. Cost of living is like that of here, which is good. But I know nothing more about this place.

Cincci - only stopped through there once for about two hours. it seemed pretty neat. like the fact of the colleges in the area, Bengals are alright mr ochocinco.

Columbus - don't recall ever being there. but like that it's within driving distance of some big cities & it seems pretty cool from what I read, maybe similar to that of Austin TX (big college city).

L'Ville - stayed there once. I kinda liked it but don't remember a whole lot since I was on a business type trip. Univ of Louisville seems like a neat school w/ a likable college sports program.


So if any of you wanna help me consider a new place to relocate to, I'd definitely love to hear what all you guys/gals got to say about these places.

I live in Louisville! We have many things to do. We have a nice 1/8 mile drag strip that just dug up track and laying concrete whole 1/8 mile. Have a car cruise most weekends.
Our local street racing scene is here 502underground.net.
College ball we have UofL but I am a UofK man myself.
Nice looking women also! cost of living not to bad.

Indy has a lot going for it. Not to bash any other cities, but I'd avoid Cincinnati and Columbus. Columbus is full of OSU fans, and ummm...

indys lsx seen is pretty big i have grown up here so thats my choice lol many things to do once you explore a little bit. only thing i hate is having my car put up for winter nov-april

I used to live out in OKC..... honestly I would rather be out there then here. I have lived in quite a few places and the grass is allways greener on the other side of the fence even when looking back.

I would not move to an area just for the car scene. Yeah there are a lot of LS cars here but more imports and mustangs then anything and the main road people cruise is a death trap on Saturday nights.


Don't get me wrong it's a nice area and all but I would move to OKC before I moved to Indy haha. For the other cities you mention they are all an easy drive from here except KS.

yeah I definitely wouldn't move just for the lsx scene. though it'd be cool to be able to meet up & get to know some cool guys, since obviously I won't know anyone in either of these cities.

Juiced... what are your favorite upsides about OKC over Indy?

rcoers... Columbus - what's wrong with Ohio State fans? are they all obnoxious or something? It's cool that they're all OSU fans, same goes for most big college towns, stillwater... all Ok State fans, down the road from me... Norman there's all OU fans, Lawrence all KU fans, Austin all TX fans, etc.

Well this thread made me laugh, I live in Reynoldsburg which is a decent middle class suburb of Columbus. I can't compare this area to anywhere because I've always lived around here. It's decent, yes almost everyone is a Buckeye fan, at any given time anywhere in town you could scream out O-H and someone will answer back with I-O, it happens a lot during football season. The local racing scene isn't as good as it used to be, but my friends and I go to Cinci and Cleveland both a few times a year. I for one wouldn't want to live in Cinci or Cleveland as these cities are a little worse off crime and money wise.

I came back to indy in the 90's because it was so affordable. I have a 1800 sq ft home that is 15 years old in a really nice area and my mortgage is $900 a month. Its nice you can get anywhere around town within a half hour. You can drive to Chicago, detroit, columbus, bowling green, cincinnati within 3-4 hours. 12 hours I can be in downtown manhatten NYC or Florida. Decent street scene.

Louisville would be nice since it would be a tad nicer weather.

I lived in Ventura, California and Brooklyn, NY. I almost moved to Nashville, TN.

Indy cuz I live here but has a lot going for it.

-Colts and we are gonna win another superbowl
-Dad does a lot of golfing and there are a lot of nice courses around the area
-Cheap cost of living
-Indy 500
-Indiana University and its satellite schools(good for finishing your business degree especially if you can get into Kelley school down here, one of the best business schools in the nation)
-generally mild weather, no extremes in temperature and the winters arent bad. just enough snow to have some fun in it once in awhile. unfortunately no one here knows how to drive in even small amounts of it...
-good lsx and general car scene in indy if you can steer clear of the ricers up there(pretty sure this is a nationwide problem though)
-lax on emissions and bs laws(tint, front plate, all that ****)
- we get enough tornadoes to appease that hobby too, one hit my middle school years back lol

feel like i could keep going, but im gonna quit for now lol

sounds like you've guys helped me rule out Cincci. I know a big part of choosing a city will depend on how hard it will be to get into a decent school, considering I only have a 2.8 gpa @ OSU.

Anymore from the L'Ville area or anyone from the KC area like to chime in?

I was on the north side, Edmond area on Memorial rd... OKC seemed to have a lot more going on maybe because it is a larger city... Indy is really not that big compared to other cities... There is still stuff to do but in OKC you feel like you have breathing room and can just go out and drive and find someplace new..... around here it is downtown and the suburbs... the big mall is downtown and you have to pay for parking....... the one in OKC was down the road and free parking haha. All of OKC is a big college town and a lot of events and stuff for college people...... for Indy the colege towns are all a good drive from each other...... Even Norman is an easy drive from the north side of OKC.... her to get from purdue to say IU or Ball state it is a lot farther.

The LSX seen there seemed to be a lot better there also.. mostly because in 5 minutes you could be out in the boonies and hang out and not worry about the cops telling you to leave or the ricers showing up.

As you know they get bad weather there in the winter but it is not like here..... they have some cold nights and bad storms but it is not winter long like it is here...


Check out Ivy Tech... it is a community college and they take ANYONE... their credits transfer to all the local universities and are cheaper and you can get your GPA up with them if you want...... A lot of people take their basic classes with them and the classes they don't offer with the university because it is a lot cheaper.... i think for most 4 year degrees you can take like half your classes at Ivy Tech and save half the money...... more driving but it is worth it...... parking at the main campus downtown is a pain though.... the niche thing though is that IUPUI (Indiana University Purdue University) is down the road a few miles so you can make the few mile drive to Ivy Tech and spend half your day there or grab a bus ride for like $2.50 and stay parked at IUPUI. IUPUI is IU and Purdue, just a smaller combined campus.

I would try IUPUI first if you want to stay in Indy, if not like was said I would go to Ivy tech and then transfer at some point. You get an IU or Purdue degree from IUPUI that carrys all the same weight as if you went here. Dont know if they have Kelley up there or not though, I doubt it.

Well I guess I'll be the first to post negative about Indy.....I worked there for over thirteen years, and I hated it. I couldn't bear to live there, so I commuted from 38 miles away.

The local government is all screwed up thanks to the cheap *** governor & mayor trying to consolidate & farm out anything they can.

Forget about having an easy drive during any snow accumulation that's more than 2". Whomever is in charge of that stuff needs to pursue other careers.

The only outlying suburb that isn't overcrowded with people is the Eastside. North is Fishers, and it's a nightmare of people overcrowding the same area. South is Greenwood, and it seems just too spread out for me. West is probably the direction that's in the most hurt right now due to overcrowding. The roadway systems in these areas just aren't set up to handle the amount of traffic that's come in within the last 7-10 years.

Most of the folks I ever came into contact with were just generally negative people. Who wants to be around that? (yes, I know this post is negative).

But if you're used to living in a big city, none of that may matter to you. I myself enjoy the small town lifestyle.

Ya I see the point, but just move farther out. I grew up in Martinsville, 30-40 mins from downtown. Small town feel, and a great place to live with a good school system. Only negative is the lasting stigma of complete racism which for the most part is gone and no worse than any other town.

The southside is not to crouded depending on the area.

I didn't realize Indy was smaller than OKC... I'm more biased to a larger city since there are usually much more things to do. Glad that was pointed out. And with there being more tornadoes here than there, it may give me reason when I make my decision to favor OKC over Indy. If I did end up moving to Indy, public policy is not that big of an issue for me and as for schools I'd probably check out IUPUI.

No Kansas City or Louisville guys/gals checking out the thread? lol

I live in Louisville, I wouldn't move to Indy, or Cincy or Columbus if I was you. Mostly because of states I hate the most Ohio is number 1 and Indiana is number 2. Louisville has a few good golf courses and gets some PGA events at Valhalla every couple of years. We just hosted the Ryder Cup last year and have the Senior PGA coming in 2011 and PGA Championship in 2014. I love it here.

You might research the square miles of each city........ driving around OKC feels much larger. Yeah more Tornado's out there but a lot more bad weather out here during the winter.

Like I said, nothing wrong with Indy, every city has it's pro's and con's. You don't go to the southside of OKC at night (found out the hard way when I got pulled over haha, cop said I needed to leave, I did not know that was the bad area haha). Here you stay away from parts of the east and west side's at night and part's of downtown... Nature out here is nicer.... out there it is red dirt haha.
