Question Did I bite off more than I can chew?

Well heres the deal. I was talking about stall converters with my Dad and I mentioned that I hopefully / probably be running high 12s with the mods in my sig, and an upcoming Vig 3600. He laughed at me and said that there is no way I will even see low 13s and that his stock 2006 5 speed Mustang will beat me for sure.

I made a bet with him saying that he has to pay off the rest of my car if I run 12s, but the catch is it has to be done on street tires.....

Ive never been to the track before and was wondering if I have any chance of pulling this off. Any tips or launching techniques are greatly appreciated! PLEASE help me put him and his Mustang to silence!

Yeah you will be easily in the 12s with that vig 3600. Go blow the doors off that GT, and get your car paid off

Edit just saw the street tires comment. It is going to be hard to hook with that vig 3600 so you will have to take it easy off the line.

a just saw a new mustang GT run 15.5 at great lakes dragaway at the last RSDs.... the cars are pigs in weight and dyno about 260-280 at the wheels.

you will have no problem running past him, however sinking into the 12s you will need TIRES....

as mentioned above drag radials are street tires... however if you have to use street radials, then drop the air pressure....

Well as soon as i mentioned M/Ts he was like no way. I really don't want to spend a fortune on nice tires because college starts up in August. Do you think keepings TCS on will help at all with the spinning? or end up hurting me more in the long run?

i know im a 6-speed but I ran 13.1 with nothing but a catback in my 00 WS6. If im not mistaken your Formy is lighter aswell and you have many more mods and putting a VIG 3600 in you should def see 12's. But the off the line is what hurts on street radials

look at getting some nitto DRs. fairly DD friendly and decent mileage out of them, but still hook fairly well. much better than regular street tires

That's a huge load of crap as well. I know a guy who has 120k on his car and goes 13.1 @108 on a regular street tire. I think he has a lid and LT's and that's all for mods...oh yea he's a 2.73 geared car as well. Your dads going to be awfully butthurt when you smoke his Stang.

Even if you spin, you will hit 12s.

My brother ran a 12.8 something in a 02 ta with headers and catback and lid. Stock auto car with factory eagle f1s. Not that hard to pull off.

I went 13.4 with my 99 Z. Street tires, lid, and 160k on the clock. Bone stock 6-speed car otherwise. If you can't go at least 13.0 you should look into the full coverage and a match option.

Just heat the hell out of the tires(i.e big burnout) and just ease into wide open throttle through first gear. Once street tires start spinning, seems like they don't want to hook.

Where do you plan on going the Grove or 66?
