Default Lapeer Dragway 2008

Okay, I'm planning a trip to Lapeer Dragway, that will be in mid-July (still working on the date with Ed and Juli - the two people in charge of the track) for an Import vs. Domestic event. The entry fee is still being discussed, although $40-$50 seems like it's gonna be about it, and hopefully we'll get several more events like this later in 2008 and into the following years. For now, though, this is a trial-run of this event, and is the only one (currently) in the books. There will be a pay-out, probably along the lines of that for Money Brackets.

I was wondering if I could get a list of those interested. If anyone wants directions to the track, I could provide detailed directions, or if you want to caravan out there with me or others, we will be leaving from Kettering University (intersection of Third Ave and Chevy in Flint, aka the birthplace of the Corvette) early that morning. The track is only 20 minutes away from the college for me (C/K diesel towing my trailer).

I wouldnt mind going but I really dont like lapeer, pits suck, track prep is nonexistent, and tech is a joke, if they know you, you can run 9's in shorts and a ball cap with no cage. The last time I was there they wouldnt let me run faster then 12.99 because I didnt have a sfi aproved bellhouseing? The time before that I went 11.6 and they never said a word.

Well, the thing is, this isn't gonna be so much about fast times or winning as getting to meet other car enthusiasts, have a good time, etc. etc. We don't really have any events for Import vs. Domestic out here in MI.

btw - I'm racing for Team Import this time around.

Well, hopefully I'll see you there. If you know anyone in the area, let them know. I'll be making flyers soon (using the school's paper & ink - paid $30,000 in scholarships for that!) so if you want any, let me know, and I'll get you some. I'll also put an image of the flyer on here.

Why not try to rent out Milan. As much as I agree about it being a good time with other car enthusiasts etc., It's still frustrating at LaPeer when you're spinning at the 1/8th mile and have to pedal it to keep from getting squirrly at 100mph. I always seem to run 2-3mph faster at LaPeer too

We're not gonna rent the track - college isn't paying for it, and I won't front the money assuming people are going to show. If I'm going to do something, it will be the track having this the same day as another event, and if enough people show, we have a race, otherwise, we run time trials and get the difference in entry fee back (I've seen Lapeer do that a few times). It's a nice win-win since I take no risk and the track takes no risk (in terms of either side fronting money, or the track saying "$400 winner" and then 8 people paying $40 each show, and the track loses money). Now, if one of you are going to rent the track out for time trials + eliminations and stuff, I'll go.
