I live in the Midwest and looking for a great 1-3 day road trip to take this summer, any suggestions?

Have you been to Door County in Wisconsin, just outside Green Bay?? Just beautiful, not a lot of traffic until summer. We were there 2 years ago and would like to go back. It might be too cold right now but I imagine late May, early June would be real nice and pretty close to your summer season.

i just drove a buddy's 00' vette from seattle-CT... take the drive to the badlands in SD... that's figgin amazing.

A nice drive around Lake Superior. Did it a few times and then I liked the Canadian part so much more that I made a u-turn before I got to Sioux Ste Marie and went back towards Thunder Bay all the other times.

An awesome place to spend a couple days is Wisconsin Dells. Take the Duck tour! (Look it up online 'cause I know it sounds crazy!) Macinac Island is a great place to visit. The Pioneer fort is quite a scene and the fudge there...well definately get some fudge! And if you don't mind the heights over the water, then it's a nice view from on the bridge. Look up Macinac Bridge online. Sioux St. Marie is a good place to go to see the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum and the locks are truely something to behold! All places will make for a memorable trip! It's probably warm enough in Wi now. I live in Minnesota and, while it calls for rain, my 3 day forcast calls for 72 tomorrow, 67 on Thurs (thunderstorms) and 56 on Fri. 65 as the high for today.

I've been from here to the far side of Montana. I thought that just into Montana looked nice. I haven't been to SD though, we went through ND.

It's a FAR drive, but I have a cabin in Alaska and that's where I'd say to go. I wish my car was up there because the road going to the cabin, from town, is amazing. All we have is a Suburban, but I've driven Suburbans for years, so I know how they handle. My dad had a rental car (Taurus I think heh and said he made the "run" in XX minutes, (like 12 or something) and so I figured "fine, I'll silently take that challenge!" So me and my friend were in town and as soon as we hit the road, I gunned it and we started timing. I made it in like 10-1/2 minutes lol He wasn't happy, simply because I had to drive like crazy, but I had fun heh Just have to watch out for Moose >_> I'd love to have some sort of event on the road because the end is a big cul-de-sac which would make for a great turn around.

I live in mn as well finally the weather should start being nice. I might have to take some time off of work this summer and go through montana. As soon as i am done with school i think i might head up to Superior for a weekend. Thanks.

I live in WI, i would def say door county and the dells are awesome, but if i were you i would stop in Milwaukee for summer fest, the worlds largest music festival, i have never had a bad time there. The dells has americas largest water park, if you like those and it has helicopter tours and tons of crazy shops, unique places to eat, tons of rides and activitys.

Been to Door County, it's a beautiful area, also been to Summer Fest, very sweet. I'm thinkin' I might head West with a buddy or two for about a week or so... Just wanna get away...take a break...

We should just change the name of this Thread to 'Promote Tourism in Wisconsin!' Because of the glacial formations and changes made to the land, WI is a unique place to visit. Nice Temps in the summer and (usually) plenty of snow in the winter! It's just those winter below zero temps that I don't live there anymore. lol Swat

If you like the more outdoors scenery, lake vermillion is a great place to drive, its by tower, mn. The lake is fantastic think has 200 some islands and the drive around it is amazing.

Pretty much everywhere in Door county is touristy/nice when the weather's good. Once you get north of Sturgeon Bay everywhere seems like a small town. My sister and her family have a perminant camp site by Carlsville, and the winery in Carlsville, swimming in Egg Harbor, and plenty of eating places are a lot of fun to visit.

take a trip up to Elkhart Lake, WI they got the Road America track up there, then you can camp or stay at the Osthoff Resort. Small, old town (Elkhart Lake) where you can rent a boat and fish or go swimming.

Not for all midwesterners but Knoxville,Gatlinburg,Sevierville area in TN are great.
Visit the "Tail of the Dragon" ..Smoky Mtn National Park... Blue Ridge Parkway and Cherohala Skyway while your there. If your riding a motorcycle its that much better.
Its a 10 hr drive for me and makes a perfect 3-4 day trip.

As far as the Dells... I was just there.... Lots of indoor waterparks and great deals on motels during the week. Try Wilderness Hotel/Glacier Canyon. Especially great if you have kids.

dells are alright theres lots to do but everythign costs money and it adds up fast, tons of great food though
the duck tour was pretty cool too i strongly recommend that if you are goin there

dont know how old you are but if you go to the dells you should also go to madison wisconsin its not too far away and its a really cool city, lots to do for the college age crowd

nashville tn is my favorite and around the smokys, even though its not considered midwest here
