I was just wondering if you guys know of any nice houses that are for sale, mostly in the Northeastern Fort Wayne area. I also like the Leo and Grabill areas as well. I'm looking at buying a house by the end of this year to get the first-time home buyers $8,000 tax credit.

You dont really get $8k back as a return... out of the entire credit you only get like $3500, which is suppose to go towards the principal of the house. If you choose to use the money for other things, you have to pay it back over the next few years at tax time!!!

That's not what I was told or how I understood it. I'm going to the mortgage company tomorrow morning to see how much I get pre-approved for since the last time I was in was about a year ago. When I'm there I'll talk to them more about it.
Thats how I understood it Maybe VLee will chime in i think he just did that deal.

The 2008 tax credit was a note that you had to pay back over a certain amount of years. The new one that took effect in 2009 is a tax credit that you get $1,000 for every $10,000 you spent on the house (or so I was told) up to $80,000 purchase price. The only stipulation on this is that it has to be your primary place of residence for atleast 3 years. I just recently purchased a house this year and that was how it was explained to me at the time of closing. I was told that you can spend it however you want and there is no penalty.

That's definitely out of my price range with me just buying the house myself!

Adam, I hear that river haven has a couple double wides that are up for foreclosure. You could get into one of those for less than $2,000. And when it floods you could hook your house up to the camaro and pull it to safety, lol

There are some nice areas in New Haven and I wouldn't mind living in that area, but not around trailer trash!
