My wife recently PCS'd to MacDill shes pharmacy. Anyway im a crew chief and never worked tankers before.I am at RAFM right now and worked RC-135 my whole career. My deros is Jun 09. Im a little curious about the tanker world. I heard your gone all the time which I am very much used to already. Ex tanker dudes here say I could do all kinds of stuff which I know but I really want to know is if they let techs crew. I was told techs dont crew in the tanker world. Is this true?

I went to visit the fam at Apollo Beach near Tampa, was not what I expected especially the general area. Really spread out. Nice though but I rather be closer to Hawaii if it was up to me. BAH is killer there 2 Techs make $3,100 something a month. Pretty pimp.

Yeah your not lieing when you say you deploy a lot. I supported 135's in Kyrgyzstan, Turkey & UAE and the crew cheifs there were telling me how much they deploy. Pretty nuts but I bet its awesome money/experience wise. The Guard has is made.. from what I've seen.
p.s. Nice signature!

i am stationed @ macdill a hydro troop. and there are a lot of tech that crew. we are not a big squadron and AMC acts like we are so we get tasked pretty heavy. If things are rotating right you can be sure to make it to the desert once a year.

Im in town now visiting the family. Damn the BX is run down! I wonder when was the last time that place got remodeled. I got kinda lost one day trying to find the hospital. I thought I was on the road that followed the water ended up going by a water tank then driving all over.
I seen a red TA a cop was getting into it near a parking lot by the gate next to the water. Well when I get my cars down here I hope to find someone that aint scared to throw the hammer down or cruise a little bit.

Im a tanker crew chief a grand forks though. Tankers are definitly gona alot lots of tdys all over the place and lots of desert rotations depending on your location. I know at gf we send our techs on the road so im sure macdill does since they are smaller.

Ahhh, MacDill! Two tours there for 13 years! They forced me out of there about two years ago. I did my last 4 years in the OG, only deployed with the 135's once to Manas. I really enjoyed it, but I'm not maintenance. I liked the town more than the job, lots of fun stuff to do in Tampa/St. Pete. The BX does kind of suck, it's a little bit run down, but it's run well and the prices are good - we didn't realize how nice it was until we pcs'd to Davis-Monthan. The BX is new here, but not run nearly as well as the one in MacDill. The housing is nice too, but as a mil to mil couple you'd be silly not to live off base!

Oh yeah im living off base. Money will be good then. Crappy thing is that the BAH rate went down 2% for MacDill. So we will be amking 50 bucks less. Still quite a bit more then most states. I hope I will be able to retire out of there. I only got 8 years left. Maybe more I guess depending on the economy.
