Default OJT..Recent Veterans Read!

If you have recently discharged from any of the armed services with at least 24 months active duty and work or have worked at least 120 hours a month, then you may be elgible for some extra cash from your GI Bill! Check with your employer to see if they offer the Aprenticeship Program, but if they do not you can get them to enroll. Then all you have to do is fill out on the VA website Form 22-1990 and fax in your DD214. On the 22-1990 form you need to put On the Job Training in the education section. Call 1-800-827-1000 for local fax info.

I dischared from the US Navy in 2006 and I am elgible to recieve 1 year of back pay equaling $10,300.00 and $430.00 a month after that for a year. This is the amount that each person will recieve if they meet the criteria.

Here's a chance to buy that new ride or pay off the old one in a time like this. Goodluck!

Yes its s good setup. You have to send in a packet of paperwork to the VA to see if you qualify though.

No not really a packet..... Just a couple of papers you need to chase around your from your employer, but for almost $15,000 total I think it is worth it! BTW to qualify all you need is the support from the Aprenticeship Program in your company and 120 hours a month of work!

Not to mention anyone who is close to a Boilermakers hall. Local 374 covers the entire state of Indiana. They have a program called "Helmets to Hardhats", If you go through that program your pretty much a shoe in. No need to welding certs to get in with the combination of you GI money you making about 33 dollars an hour right out of the gate. Any veterans PM me for more info.

Can someone be a little more informative on this. Is this basically extra money on top of the GI bill we already have.

What do you exactly mean by back pay?

Give me until the office is open on monday for exact details or just call the number for more info. I will update you all on monday or tuesday.
I believe it is extra money on top of your GI Bill. They offer this to veterans to get on their feet after discharge. I don't remember hearing about this at T.A.P.S. class, but my buddie discharged from the Marines and recieved.

No. After you get out of the military they will give you a certain percentage of the value of your GI Bill each month. It takes a few months to recieve the first payment, after that you will recieve $990.00/m for the first 6 months then you will recieve $726.00/m for the next six months, then $430.00/m for the next 12 months.
Like I said in the first post I am recieving $10,300.00 in back pay, cause I got out in 2006 and never filed for it til now. They will only pay you up to one year backpay ($990 X 6 months = $5,940) + ($726 X 6 months = $4356) = $10296. Geeezzz you guys are killing me LOL!

I'm guessing you are just getting back paid this money because of the changes to the current GI bill, so they decided to give you the current benefits of the GI bill?

I will wait for more information, but i am guessing this is what happened.

IDK what you mean? I have no idea what is happening with the GI Bill. I know people that have been doing this since 2006 and I think the rates are the same! Maybe up or down a couple of bucks.

Just give the VA a call and they will answer most of your questions. It is worth the call and they can give you better info than me. All I know is that I will be getting free money for my service!

Yea just a few months ago the GI bill changed. Now you are given e-5 BAH and you get tuition paid to pretty much any public college in your state. This is all from memory. Don't quote me on it.

I've been wondering about this. Contemplated ditching my ideas of becoming a cop to go to school full time, but who qualifies for this update? I got out Sept. 2006.

Yea, that date sounds right. I know people that have gotten out should still qualify for the new GI Bill.

Everyone should be thanking George W. Bush for this, because he is the one that signed for it.

Just do a search guys and you'll have plenty of reading to do on it. This change was established several months ago, so there should be plenty of information on it.

Here you go:
http://www.gibill2008.org/index.htm

It depends on how long you served after 9/11 from what i am reading on there. But that site has ALL kinds of information on it.
