Default Fellow NCO's/DS's/DI's...

I was just tasked with babysitting one of our extra duty soldiers this weekend. I've got him for 2 hours on Sunday. There's some painting and weed-pulling he needs to do, but that's to be spread out over the week. They told me I could "take him to the gym, do PT with him, Army related training, or something creative." Since they gave me that open-ended "something creative," I was wondering if anybody here had some creative ideas or experiences.

Make him do something worthwhile that actually gets something accomplished such as yard work or floor cleaning. Or you can just PT the **** out of him for 2 hours. You can give him a research assignment related to the regulation that he violated in order to get on extra duty and have him write a multi page essay on that subject and how it relates to the army values.

I wouldnt have him doing something that has no purpose, thats just stupid.

Ya, I don't want to have him do anything stupid like turning rocks or anything. I'm thinking Army Study Guide/preparation for board.

Get a nail and let him clean the cracks in the sidewalk. Plenty of time to think about what he did.

Show him a good battle scene from a war movie, such as scene 1 of Saving Private Ryan, and have him give a by the book AAR. Or give him a company op order and have him develop and issue a platoon op order with full blown sand table.

For me it depends on why the soldier is in trouble. If he blew off a detail then I would have him working his *** off scrubbing toilets, mabey even take him to the chow hall and have him wash dishes and clean up all of that crap,(they never refuse free cleaning at the chow hall). If he has been late to work and or formations then I might have him do mountain climbers, knee benders, iron mikes, ect... all of the normal exercises that will strengthn' his legs up and make him a faster more punctual soldier. But if he was dumb enough to disrespect a fellow NCO, well then he would be given some motrin at the beginning of the day and I would commence to smoke the dog **** out of him for the rest of the day. Those are the three most common causes for soldiers being on extra duty so those are the best examples I can come up with,(been there, done that). It really comes down to what type of soldier you are dealing with and what the cause for punishment was. I agree with you that cleaning rocks can be stupid for both the soldier and supervisor, but in some cases that might be the only way to get through to the joe. IMO the purpose behind these sort of things is to get the point across to the soldier that they are fucked up and need to fix themselves asap, I don't set out to embarrass the joe and further unmotivate him.

He assaulted a female soldier. He also recently failed the run event on his PT test. I took him to the gym and we ran on treadmills for 45 minutes. Then I spent the rest of the time quizzing him on board questions, particularly Code of Conduct, UCMJ, and PT.

Should have taken him to the local jail so he could have felt what it was like to be assaulted.

Why isn't this douche bag locked up or facing a more serious punishment? There's got to be more to it(or less) than just assaulting, did he just recieve an EO complaint? that would explain the extra duty, failing a PT test would just put him in the units additional PT program.

He got an art15 and lost rank. He's now an E-2. Anything else he got, I don't know. I don't know too many details about the situation, only that I got tasked with watching him for a couple hours.

at my shop we either get the dog **** smoked out of us (sometimes in MOPP 4 depending on who it is) or put to work in something related to what we did. Turn in a dirty weapon? Come in and detail every weapon in the armory. Screw up equipment? Inventory the whole squadron. Disrespect an NCO? Spend the week being smoked by said NCO, possibly in MOPP 4.

Damn that MF should get a beating. They should have ripped all his rank off and kick his *** out dis hon. If I had the choice I would make him wear a sign and make him scrub the side walk in front of the commissary.
