Congrats man Engineers lead the way. I just left ft leonard wood march 4th it does suck but you will love it once you get to ait. Basic was a joke from what i saw. I went to fort sill ok. I came in the army 11sept2008 hit ait 22nov2008 and hit my unit this week. when you go to ait there are 2 companys you can be in Hotel 554 or alpha 554. I hope you get hotel co it's awesome there. I love being a 21E and they say 10 weeks what a joke i was there 18 weeks just for AIT from start to finish and also there is something thats not in your contract that you will have to do after you graguate its a bft cours its battle focus training a refresher from basic its 2 weeks long and sucks. If you have any questions PM me and we can chat more.

People that sign up for a combat arms unit tend to do so more because they want to kill the enemy in combat than because they want to do the same job when they get out. You can get a degree with GoArmyEd, then continue school tuition free when you get out with IVG in your state, get a white collar job and make more money than someone who was a fobbit in Iraq for a year while the boys were out fighting. And assuming you become an NCO while you're in your leadership experience will help greatly when applying for a job.

Congrats bro, I went to Ft Lost in the woods as well. Like someone else said, be glad you aren't going in the winter... I was there from Jan-May. It was cold til about april. 21E huh? The guys in the barracks next to me are 21E's headed to afghanistan. I'm training for Iraq right now. Good luck at BCT/AIT man. Have fun and make the best of it.

HOOOAAAHHHH!!! Gratz man. Fort Lost in the Woods holds a dear spot in my heart too. I was a 21B, so I got to blow some stuff up. It is what you make of it, I had a blast in basic, and anyone can, just keep your chin up and remember your LSX is waiting when you get home Oh keep an eye out for Jodie while your still at home.

I dont think so, since you're doing your AIT in the same place as your basic-you could just end up marching straight to your ait the same day you graduate basic. I'm pretty sure you'll get to take leave before you get to your duty station tho.

I think its if you have more than 180 days of active duty then you can pick your duty station but otherwise in your case no i doubt it-im pretty sure thats something youd have to work into your contract with your recruiter.

I'm finishing up my first tour in iraq...down south, tallil ab...i went to knox for basic and aberdeen for ait and asi...you should get some kind of family day after basic...but then ait and MAYBE hometown recruiting (which would be nice) then it's off to your duty station...and you put in a "wish list" of a couple places you wanna go but its all about needs of the army...since you're an engineer i'd suggest you try for germany...heard alot of stories about that place, and they might need some construction workers there (in staioned at ft hood tx)...and also start doing correspondance courses ASAP!!! im regretting that now...even a 150 on the board cant get me to make cutoff....you'll understand one day young skywalker

welcome to army young soldier. i just saw this thread. just a piece of advice. when you see a drill sgt getting near you yell "at ease!" and go to parade rest. i myself am a ft leonard wood drill sgt and will be there somewhere when you are down there for bct. just remember your military customs and courtesies that youll be taught and life will be okay. and yes after your OSUT training you should have at least 3 days leave till your first duty station. attention to detail young soldier...thats what we stress upon you. listen attentively and move with a purpose. you will make friends that you will have for the rest of your life

Congrats and good luck. Just remember the army, like any other job, is what you make it. If you have a good attitude and show up ready to go every day its a blast. I joined in 87 and just retired I was only going to spend four years and go to school with the GI bill but I liked it so much I stayed.
