Default Sniper Schools?

I have a buddy who just got onto a swat team and is looking to maybe put himself through a sniper school.

He asked me to do some research and find some info on sniper schools. Preferably in Illinois or the surrounding states.

I figured I would ask in here and might get a good feedback from you all.

Thanks!

HD1911....thanks for those. They helped a bunch. The blackwater one looked pretty neat. I still have to look at a couple of the ones you listed. Is it possible to get into the Marine Corp one as a LE officer?

z28....I'll check around for one out there. Thanks

Being on a SWAT team I am pretty sure he can ask to be sent to the school that the department uses on the company $$. I think most SWAT guys get SNIPER qualified. Could be wrong.

Well the type of Sniper needed in SWAT is a whole lot different than the type of Sniper needed in the military, I would think. There isn't stalking or scouting in SWAT, it just the accuracy that is needed. Does your buddy know for a fact that he needs sniper school or does he just want to go? Because I am sure he could just buy a Remington 700 (M-24 in the military) and practice til he has the accuracy he needs.

Being able to shoot does not = Sniper.

I went to SOCOM's MTT Sniper school in 97.... so I am partial to that one. Of any of the courses I know of listed there as a civilian, the Blackwater or Gunsite are the best IMHO.

You are somewhat right in that the average shot taken by the FBI sniper is only 175 Meters. Most Army Snipers combat zero at 200 and work out from there. The model of rifle he purchases and learns on doesnt matter as much as learning the Mil dot methodology or similar for windage and distance modifiers.

Usualy not the case... actully the CQB that they train in is night and day different then percision shoot dont shoot shooting. Smaller SWAT teams may well cross train heavily however. And any SWAT team worth their **** shoots enough that all of them are good shots (Again... being a good shot is not = sniper)

This is all IMHO... what do I know.

The FBI Hostage Rescue Team goes to the USMC Sniper School, Which I believe to be in Quantico Virgina, So I would assume the Swat team would go to the same place but I could be wrong.

longrange4u, I agree that just being able to shoot doesn't mean he would be a sniper. I would classify him as a marksmen. But in my opinion all SWAT Snipers really need is the ability to shoot. Military snipers have to be able to do the scouting and stalking role and shoot from much farther ranges than most SWAT snipers would ever dream of encountering. But yes marksmen definitly doesn't equal sniper.
