Been there done that! I'm a USAF firefighter. I was at the station right near the ECP on the flight line side next to the recon aircraft. (you know what I mean) I was there in 2005 when PT gear wasn't mandatory! Are y'all still living in tents there? I was in a tent right next to the BX where all the cars were parked.

There are MUCH worse places than Al Dahfra............**** that's where Marine's go for R&R. I hear you have 2 swimming pools, a rec area with video game systems, pool tables, snack bar, dry cleaning, baskin robins, dominos, an exchange...that's a vacation!
Not to get on a soap box or anything, but where I just came back from, we didn't even have a ******* trailor. No exchange, supplies were brought to us twice a month.
My wife was stationed on Macdill AFB and has been to Al Dhafra. How long have you been stationed there? If you have been there since before May of 2005 you might know her. She drove a red Trans Am.

I was there a little over a year ago. It was good as far as a deployment goes. They pretty much banned smoking except for in one area. I am also security forces, I worked the VSA, Sledge, Hammer, and the ADS side gate. I bought a lot of cheap shoes over there!! And when I was there, there was only one pool?? Don't know about now though?

There's also another thread I started titled UAE which is the same place.. helps to search first.
Anyway I leave soon and I can't wait till I leave this boring *** place. Turkey was way better than this place.

You're actually complaining about being in Dhafra??? You sir, are an idoit!
Listen to the Marine, and a fellow Airman that has been there before, you think boredom is bad there? You got all kinds of things at your finger tips, and you go to sleep at night in an air conditioned dorm room with electricity, cable, and a bed to sleep on. Hell, you don't even have to go outside to take a leak at night, as you can just walk down the air conditioned hall-way to the bathroom. Trust me, you have no idea what you are talking about if you are complaining. I got some Army buddies who wake up every day in their own sweat in a pit they dug in the sand, who have been there for 12+ months straight, who continue to wake up every day wondering if they will live to see the next...
Trust me dude, you got it great if you are deployed there. Stop your bitchin'.

No matter where they go, there will always be bitching. You should hear all the people whining here at Al-Udeid about not having wi-fi yet (we have a Starbucks and Popeyes coming later this summer). These guys sure are earning their hazpay.

I have deployed plenty, and been all over the world in plenty of places I'd rather not even think about again. I for sure am not saying you don't work hard, I know the just half the life of SF and I know its not an easy one.
But as far as complaining about being in Dhafra, I still say that there is no where better to be if you are deployed in the AOR, and to complain about it is foolish.

I remember complaining about al dhafra and comparing it to Bagram when i was there. I know what you mean about the petty sh*t. Just all the little things they come up with to make the base more presentable to visitors. But like already said, people are going to complain everywhere. And yes it can be boring, but theres alot to keep you busy. Workout, play poker at the cac.
