This forum has definitely become rather prepubescent lately. Same thing happened with thirdgen.org around 2001. Most of the guys that built that forum took off, sold their rides, and moved on to new projects or should I say, newer cars. Looks like ls1tech is headed in that direction. Anyway, the gt500 would own the camaro 10 times out of 10 in a street race with comparable drivers. These drag tests mean jack in daily driving. And I doubt most gt500 owners that track there car are going to go in with street tires and expect much when they're roasting their tires off for three gears. The SS is not even close to the gt500 in straight line performance. It's embarassing for the Carmaro honestly to not have a car to fight the gt500. Any GM will probably ho-hum around and bring out the z28 in time only to have it killed off it's first or sec. year of prod. Of course, who really want's to buy a new Chevy when the company's run by the same govt. that's going to kill off our type of rides anyway?? I'm torn, guess I'll get a used vette or a Ford in the future.

That gt 500 is a pos 12.8 with 100+ more hp compared to 426 hp 12.9 camaro clearly you see what you can get for alot less

I'm guessing you're kidding here but if you aren't.....with just BOLT-ONS they are hitting right at 480-490rwhp. Add a pulley onto that and you're looking at 550-560rwhp. How the **** is that not potential? I agree its heavy and its slow stock but it takes literally nothing to get them moving, QUICK.

No, I'm not. I think it's well understood that the 5.4L engines are very potent engines. But I think the LS3 has more potential and u can do it for cheaper. Slap a supercharger on a either engine and your looking at right around 100hp/liter. So I guess that's speaks for itself.

This race was raced to show the Two cars that are supposedly on the same level of production.

If the ss didnt want to loose to the Cobra then they shouldnt have called it a ss without putting FI on it, it aint like GM didnt know the Cobra existed.

AND if they would have put FI say good by to the 33k everybodys been flaunting around.

I think the correct duel your looking for is GT VS. SS OR Z28 since they have the same HP...

I hope to god the new Z28 will be supercharged and rape that 50k cobra... Cobra's are badass cars but can you seriously walk away feeling like you got a good deal spending 50k on a mustang? Get a damn vette for that.

But you're leaving out the fact that 550rwhp is still only going to get you high 11's with a perfect launch on slicks, which is laughable. More importantly, it also means you are still getting raped by cars with 100hp less, and in the case of the C6Z, absolutely flat-out annihilated by a bone stock car with over 100hp less.

That's my point. If all you are looking for is a dyno queen, then there is nothing wrong with this car at all. But if you actually want a fast car, then it's got some big (pun intended) problems.

im not gonna at all defend the gt 500 because i am a pure chevy fan.... but i am going to defend physics and traction. The more power your car makes, the more tire you will absolutely need. The gt500 makes the same kind of power a H/C/I f body would make. Now, for all you f body guys, how well do your cars launch on the street with a 275 all season tire and H/C. Pretty ******* terrible. U blow the tires off the car and destroy the 8th mile with rubber. If you watch the video, they even show and say how much tire spin the gt500 has vs the camaro. For the first half of the race the gt500 is trying to catch the camaro while fighting lack of traction. Its common sense guys. the 12.8 vs 12.9 shows nothing accept the the more hp u make the more tire u need. the 110 vs 115 is what u should look at. Give both of these cars some Et streets or maybe even some slicks then u will see there true difference at the track. Once again im not defending the gt500. Just explaining a fact of making power.

12.8 vs 12.9.. in the 1/4 give me a break. that is rather sad that 120 ADDITIONAL HP only equates to a tenth faster.
