Default Need Vid Of Ls1 Smoking Old Mopar!!

Got a mopar fanatic at my work that keeps downing these "new age hot rods". I would really like to have a vid of an old challenger/charger....etc getting their asses handed back to them by an LS1.

Thanks guys

Okay now from someone with a V8 that knows what they are talking about? An LS1 will easily outrun any Mopar ever made with a little modding.... actually they would prolly outrun most of them bone stock.
I dont care if its a stroked LS1 with a turbo and nitrous on it. I just want a vid.

Think again. Go look up the stock times on some of the fastest old mopars, then look at the stock times of the new f-bods. New cars lack the hp of old but they make up the diff with weight.

Wouldn't take much for one to beat the other.

Um....68 Hemi Dart. They only made 50 of them but they were 10 second cars from the factory. 426 Hemi, crossram intake with two 780 Holleys if I'm not mistaken, 4-speed and 4.88 gears. I have seen a write up in musclecar review of a stock 70 Hemi Challenger running an in the 11s on goodyear polyglas tires. , but its possible for an stock ls1 to take out a stock 340 or 383.

I dont think you guys realize what i want... I dont care if there are old mopars that were made that would outrun LS1's. I just want a damn vid of an older mopar getting beat by an LS1. The mopar could have a cracked block or a blown head gasket for all i care!!

Yes those old cars were extremely fast, but allot of magazines were NOT doing these test with completly stock cars. Some of the manufactors would give them versions that were beefed up. I also have seen were some of the old magazines would make the test with open headers, traction bars, and othe things like that. The big three were in muscle car wars, and they wanted to see their factory racers flying in those magazines.
Also in 1972, they changed the horse power ratings, to net ratings.

A 426 hemi in a 2800lb Dart body... it's not very difficult to believe it did 10s bone stock.

I think it is. Your goin tell me all it had was that engine w/a 4-speed and 4.88s, and ran 10s. There's no way a car like that would get taction with that set up, and run 10s.

Actually, a lot of the "factory lightweight" cars would run deep into the 11.s if not 10.s. Too bad they don't do that anymore.....

When they lift the front end completely off the ground when they launch I think that they are getting enough traction to run 10s. Superstock Mopar springs helped out alot. These cars were prepared by the Hurst Corporation for Dodge and featured plexiglass windows that were let up and down with straps, no rear seat, Dodge A100 van front seats, modified k-member and I think the the front clip was acid dipped aluminum like the 62 Pontiac 421 HD Catilinas. It was a 12:1 or 12.5:1 426 Hemi with a magnesium crossram intake and I'm sure it made well over 500 HP. I think hurst also included a set of 8" slicks mounted on black steelies.

Thank you for pointing that out. I knew those cars had to have something like you just said to run 10s. I have seen those cars before but didn't know they were considered street cars. I always thought they were factory race cars.

im the guy johnboy is talking about. Put a set of stickys on any A-body with a big block or even a 340 car and It will get smoked by any stock ls1 or slight mod car.E-bodys are heavy and slow so that would be close na mopar would get smoked.

Had to change this post up because my dipshit co-worker got on my screen name and wrote a little bit.

So Chris.... you saying that your challenger with a set of tires will outrun a stock LS1?? I KNOW i can find a stock one if your up for a little racing for $$$$
