Default Blast from the Past: 1983 Firebird Commercial

Man on man I about died laughing when I saw this...the music....the hair.....the way the gush about the styling....wow.

Anyhow I think this is the supposed to be for the 1982 Firebird, but the Trans Am shown has the "power Blister" that wasn't available until the 1983 model year....maybe it just wasn't available in time.

Anyhow.

PS I owned a 1983 Firebird V6 it was my first F-Body, and I ended up putting a L-81 350 in it after I burned up the 2.8 Liter.

FWIW the 5.0 Liter Trans Am of that era only had ~150hp so even it would have a hard time smoking the tires, nevermind that 4-cylinder firebird!!!!

mmmm, no wonder they got a reputation as a redneck car - the commercials had chicks with guns in them!

I bought my '83 Trans Am new off the show room floor. I loved that car!! I put about 150,000 miles on it and cried the day I sold it about 7 years latter.

AND, if I remember we were a lot cooler than that commerical, I listened to real rock n' roll too!

True Story, my first Firebird was a 1983 2.8 Liter V6, and my first race ever was against an Astro Van....it beat me......badly.

225hp/300lbs/ft 5.0L V8 Tuned Port Injection (Dual Cats)
235hp/340lbs/ft 5.7L V8 Tuned Port Injection (Dual Cats)

So from a low point of an 88hp 4 Cylinder, to the High point of a Buick Grand National Powered Trans Am. The 20th TA was the fastest F-Body around until the LS1 hit the streets. Though one could argue that a 455SD might be faster, or whether or not a 1991/92 Firehawk is considered "stock". If you do consider Firehawks Stock then there are a couple late ones with all aluminum motors that would qualify as the fastest birds ever made. I rode in one of those third gen hawks, and I'll probably allways want one now.

Is it just me, or does the guy narrating and the music sound like the same guy and music from late 70's early 80's **** movies?

The 1985 TPI engines had 215 hp for the Iroc-Z and 210hp for the TransAm (due to less restrictive Air Intact track). I have the Camaro brouchures from 1982 to 1992 for the 3rd Gens. Still have them if anybody needs info.

Had a '83 Z28, traded in for 1985 IROC-Z which had had until I got my current 1999 SS converitble.

My buddy back in high school (80s) bought a new 4 cylinder camaro...
He couldnt handle the 'power' and wrapped it around a tree. He walks with a limp now.
....true story.
