Default what to get?

im looking to make a street rod and am planing on buying a totaled car to start for brakes engine rear end and such. im planing on eventually puting a huge turbo on this and getting somewhere around 800whp. my first question is what camaro/firebirds had ls1 in them, that is 99+ gen 3 ls1. also if all the v8s were ls1 in those years will it be best to just get the cheaper standard coupe instead of a trans am/z28/ss because ill probably gonna be junking the trans and rear end.

you would be better off building an iron block for 800hp+ the stock block in these ls1's arent made for that kind of power.

so your both suggesting lq9 then. i was planing on eventually doing that. only reaon im lookinf for a complete totaled car is to have an unfooled around with wiring harness fuel tank and gauge cluster to get the car moving. is the ecu for the lq9 motors comprable im sure the tune is different but can they be tuned through the same programs.

800rwhp is iron block territory. Not too many alum. blocks in that range. a few but not many.

If you're making a street rod just use a Gen 1.

Gen 1 383 shortblock = 2K
Gen 3 383 Shortblock = 6K

deffinetly dont wanna go gen 1 or 2. my plan right now is to get a totaled camaro and part that out keeping the wiring, trany and few other goodies then getting a lq4 shortblock rebuilding that adding some ls6 heads and some other goodies. will any v8 in a camaro/firebird after 1998 be an ls1?

Yup.

Z28's, Trans Am's, Forumla's, and SS's all came with a LS1 V8.
