its an easy fix.
take out the black pushpins, release the clamps holding the lid down, and remove the stock lid/rectangle piece out of the car. loosen the band clamp from the back part of the lid where it connects to the rectangle type thing. Now put in back together, reworking the rubber with a small flathead screwdriver until it sits flush. by no means is this is a major problem. it should take no more than 5 min to fix.
other good filter brands include blackwing(?) by SLP and volant. volant makes a filter similar to the K&N FIPK. persoanlly, i have a drop in k&n only because i got it as part of a deal when i bought a lid of another ls1tech user. you might want to get a lid and you wont have to fix that above problem. im sure the go dirt cheap in the for sale section now.

yes no one else makes a better filter then k&n,,,if by best you mean best at letting dirt IN! get a good quality stocker...

i dont want a k&n because i hear that regular ones are better at keeping dirt out.
other then that, yes, i would love to put a performance filter in there.
there are threads about this.

btw where can i get a lid? advance auto perhaps? i have no time for shipping because i'm on the road.
im not going to repair this problem because i tried to pry the rubber back to shape without having to unscrew stuff n clamps but it simply refuses. like its set in that shape. so its not worth it. and you can see in the pictures that one of the rubbers snapped. so f it. and i do hear that our stock lids are inferior to after markets in terms of performance and engine life. so i will put a new lid on there. are there any write ups on how to do this? this will be my first. this is my first car.

I also disagree.
I've been running K&N, as well as other oiled filters and never had any problems at all.
If your getting oil on your MAF try to not over oil the filter. If you can't figure that out then just clean the MAF after about 1k miles after you over oil it.
There are as many studies showing the down side of oiled filters as there are showing the up side. If you don't like them don't run them, personally I always have and always will.

I'm running K&N here too... so isues! but, like mentioned before everything as it's pro's and con's. no! that is not normal. get it fix or get an after market lid. looks like it's getting sucked in, maf screen will stop from engine ingesting it. thats one of the reasons I got a new lid....

I have a K&N, it came with the car. It was brand new, never installed and the car still had the paper filter in.
I put the K&N in, no difference at all. But, I will not use the K&N when it needs to be oiled.

How are you gonna see what gets by it. Your motor ingests it I have read numerous test that show K&N doesn't filter as well as a quality paper. I believe there is one on bobistheoilguy IIRRC.
I need to take that POS K&N that came on my car off I just never think about it

so you mean this as a temporary solution or as long term? because im actually at a relatives atm. so its cool. i just think this is the best excuse to put in a lid. plus its better for the motor health wise than the stock lid.
