Hey guys, im looking to get an ls1 f body i've been doing lots of research on them and love them but I think the only year I can afford is like a 98or 99 cuz im picky and only want an m6. I was talking to one of my dads freinds and he told me to get a 2000 - up because in 98 and 99 the first batches of the ls1's werent as strong and had some bugs that needed to be fixed and they werent perfected until 2000, is this true or would I be fine with a 98. Im looking for a car with about like 90k too if that helps, thanks alot - cory d

it doesnt really matter. the 98-00 engines have a diff intake, but a slightly bigger cam, and the 01-02 have the smaller cam with the better intake. i hear it really isnt that much of a difference stock for stock.
your going to mod the car anyways so get whatever you want. it doesnt make a difference.

the only problem with 98's is the fact that they are harder to find a tuner for. aside from that they have different heads, and a few other small differences, but in no way are they less reliable.

I daily drive and rag on my '98 Z and have no problems. My car is an A4 and is still plenty of fun. It's very convenient to spin the tires with. I don't have to brake stall to spin them.

i have been doing a lot of looking about and reading, seeing as how im getting ready build a new motor. The 98 and 99 are just as good as the 00-04 LS1. They made changes in late 2000 including the rod bolts, heads, cam, intake. Gm started putting the 241 heads on which is a much better flowing head, but the detuned it with the cam. In 01 they started putting the ls6 intake on and they put much stronger rod bolts in. Thats it other than a few minor changes such as egr and this and that.
Now if your looking for a solid block to build a motor get a 99 block. After 98 they redesigned the water jacks so the block cools better, but they changed that again in the 2000 model. (I dont know why i work for chevy the change **** all the time when it is fine in the first place).

I've had a '98, '99, '00, and '02 LS1. The '98 has been the best built so far. I'd buy another '98 in a heartbeat.
