Default mti cam question from newbie

im 19 and just bought my 99 Z, me and my best friend have been looking online on every website for about 5 months. i finally saved 10k and the day after i found a car on craisglist under the houston area. it was located in webster. actuall ended up being .7 miles away from my house no lie and i have been looking all over the U.S. well it was unmolested with 46k on the odometer. came with rims, slp intake, short throw shifter, strut tower brace, and programmer. only for 10k. well yesterday my cousin whom has had both LS1 z's and ss's, he gave me an mti r1 cam....i looked it up for details but since mti is closed i cant find anything on the 110 degree. all i could find were the 112 and 114. my cousin said this is a pretty mean cam....but im new to the site as of 10 min ago and im ******* amazed by these cars. ive now owned it for two weeks today and already won a race gainst a @96 corvette....not too big, but my first race. and im new to drivin standard. hit me up with any info and stuff about the cam tho cause i wanna know what kind of perforance and stuff ill see

Try searching around this site awhile. There is so much info here that you are bound to find what you want. Try looking in the internal engine section for specs on your cam. Welcome to the site!

I don't know man. I would never put a cam with an LSA of 112 in my SS. In my opinion an LSA under 112 is for racing purposes only.

fwiw, i talked to someone at mti motorcars on the phone today about the specs on an mti cam. even though they're out of the performance business, he was very helpful on the phone. call 'em up if you have any questions.

btw, congrats on your car.

There's a lot more to a cam than the LSA. "racing purposes only" ?

The R1 was a big cam back in the day. It still has a lot of duration for a daily driver. You'll need new springs , pushrods ,and custom tuning to run this cam. Since it's a 6 speed , you might get by with the stock gears. Once you start there s no turning back, can you say clutch ,broken rear etc!!! Good Luck with what ever you do

i new i would have to replace all this with aftermarket parts, and i might be replacing my ls1 heads with a pair of ls6 heads i might be able to get off my cousin....but im pretty gentle on cars unlike my cousin.....and the reason i mention him alot in this thread is that hes like 24 and been thru 3-4 f bodies......in other words, he's hell on these cars.....and has a **** load of parts that i can get my hands on hahah

but im hoping that i wont be goin thru parts like toilet paper cause in the long run its gonna be a daily driver.....so my only plans really are: full exhaust, cam, maybe 9 in if i can find one for a good price, and thats bout it.....future dreams of sittin a supercharger on top that bad boy of an engine.....but thats future talk .....let me know what yall think
