SLP Ram Air Intake Air Box I understand the SLP Air Box is not made vary well and all of them leak. I can tell mine is leaking from both sides. What is the best way to seal this air box??? I can't believe GM used this design for so long!!

Check it closley at first glance it looks ok, use smoke from a sig and you will see the smoke getting sucked in around the sides where it does not have clamps. the only real clamps are in the front. (BS) design!!

Been there done that man, no problems on mine.
I suppose you could go get some weather stripping and apply it around the inside of the box, or just get another lid.

No kit just the replacement filter at advance auto parts or auto zone ...pick one .The filter cost about $60 if i remember right it been years since i bought one.

And just for the record its not a horrible thing. You'll just get a little warmer air, but when your actually moving there wont be much difference. Yes you want it to seal as tight as possible, but i wouldnt spend $300 trying to do so. Get it as good as you can and move on.

I did dyno testing on a stock z28 with the slp lid. We tested a bunch of air filters. The k&n was alright but i was actually surprised to find out that the fram air hog filter produed more power. We did a few runs with each and it seemed to put down better numbers. I never had any cases of the slp lid leaking on my 01 ss. But i would try a new filter.

Just a quick question for Jester. Are you sure the tabs at the back of the lid are in the slots before you latch it down? I have done this a couple of times even with the stock lid.

Yes the tabs are down in the slotts, but if you look at the left and right sides it bows silghtly becouse its just plastic. This is fixed front and back only the sides leak use the smoke trick, have one of your friends push the gas to 1500 RPM's and hold a sig close to side of the air box you will see the smoke getting sucked in!! I used black gasket maker to solve this issue no more leaky!

Are you using your stock bellow? just curious..Cause most people replace the accordian bellow with a slp or a fernco.....and when you do that you can do a little cutting and get a tight fitting on EVERTHING! good luck

There's at least two kinds of "SLP Air Box"es. The "cheap"
one, which is blow-molded plastic like most, and the
Blackwing one that came as a "factory" option and is
fiber reinforced plastic like the stocker, only without
the vanes and silencer. This latter has never leaked on
me and seals well. It's thick as stock unlike the cheaper
ones out there.
Consider a thin, open-cell weatherstripping foam tape
from Home Depot. Put it on the underside of your air
filter (just so it can't get loose and go traveling down
the throat).
Do not go for the K&N, just use a decent cheap paper
one.

I have the cheap SLP lid on both of my cars. One car has a Fram paper filter, one has a K&N with no gasket.
When I seen grass and **** in my MAF screen I decided to look around.
I ended up taking a 1/8" thick ruler and inserting it right under the back of the lid, right between the lid and filter lip.
On my SS with the K&N I took the MAF out, cleaned the lid, put a bead of silicone around the sealing area, laid wax paper over the filter, and put the lid on overnight.
Then I took the lid off, peeled the wax paper off the lid. Now it has a built up layer of silicone around it and it seals. I also trimmed it up so it doesn't look like a sloppy mess.
But still whatever you put on it tries to peel off the back when the lid is installed because you have to slide it under the tabs. So far my fix works for me.
