Default Car Is Slugish.. Maybe need diff. gears??

I know this is probably a stupid question. Though I need some help with this.. Here is my mod list: Slp Lid, 224/230 114 lsa, Long Tube Headers. Cat delete Y pipe, Borla cat back,2800 stall conv.,Stock 2.73 rear. The car is OK off line. When I reach about 40mph it pulls slow up to about 80mph then pulls real hard. I seems as if the trans is shifting too soon and not keeping me in the power band of the cam and stall. I was thinking the problem is my set up. I think it would work better with 3.73.I think that would get my rpms back in the range it needed to be for that stall speed and cam set up...... Any tips would be great.

Have you had the car tuned? 373 gears would def help with acceleration but if you get a tune and tighten up your shift points that would help you too.

The car has been tuned. These mods were done before I bought the car so I am not sure who did the tune.

It should be easy to tell if its a trans problem or a gearing/power problem.

You can try changing the gears, and when you get them installed, obviously your shift points will have to change. It may be a problem in your trans, or your shift points, or just the way the car is tuned to run. (unlikely but don't leave anything to chance)

Assuming everything is ok... id get the tune looked at. Its amazing what a couple degees of timing can do to flat spots... not to mention the full spectrum of driving. If you have someone thats a tunner that your cool with, its even better... you get it tuned to how YOU drive it. There are also alot of parameters that can be change regarding the transmission and your stall.

(ive been tuning probably 8-10 hours easy between the 2 cars the last 3-4 days so im still stoked about how much of a difference in BOTH cars on the butt dyno)

Oh, and another +1 for 3.73's!

use you the same carrier you have. its a 2 series witch i hear its way thicker(stonger) gears than the 3 series carrier.

if u just want speed go 3.73..drawbacks high rpms on highways, waste extra gas gonna spin 1,2 on street tires lol
i suggest you just get 3.42s since they are better on gas and traction

3.73 gears are amazing. A tune will fix your power issues and let it pull more consistant.

yea, definitely get the tune checked out, its amazing what a good tune will do. if that doesnt work, you could go gears, and a higher stall.

2.73 gears and a baby 2800 stall with a cam not a good combo. Cam's tend to move the powerband to a higher RPM with such a low RPM stall and 2.73 gears the car will spend more time out of its powerband than anything else. IMO.. get a higher flash stall something like a 3400 or higher and change the gear to at least a 3.23. Hell I have a 3600 stall and 3.73's and I'm stock internal.

I love 2.73's I stand by them after owning the. Sure they suck from a dig. But a highway pull in my car was excellent. My buddies 3.23 car shifted to third I was still in second and I just started to pull away.

Did the exact same thing to my buddies M6 car. Pulled on him to from a 30mph kick(yes he can drive)

Never got the chance to bottle it but i would say 150 shot with 2.73's woulda been a highway monster.

My car would pull hard from 35-58 when it shifted to second it wouldnt pull very hard until the rpms came back up at like 64mph it pulled hard from then on.

If ya get your car working with those 2.73's you my end up loving them. Plus you cant beat the gas mileage.

I think I have decided to go with 3.73's. My local shop is giving me a great deal on parts and install.
