Default T56 difference (LS1 vs. LT1) (visuals)

Hey all, I'm going to pick up a T56 6-speed from a guy that claims it's either from a '00 or '02 Camaro, he can't remember. I don't care, as long as it's really for an LS1. But the price he's selling it for makes me believe it may be an older LT1.

Since i'm not familiar with these transmissions (doing an engine swap on a Miata), can anyone tell me the visual differences between the two?

He doesn't have a picture of the trans so I'm doing a little research. I see the obvious difference is that the LT1 has a level/horizontal top of the bellhousing, whereas the LS1 comes to a tip at the top of the bellhousing.

Is this correct? Are there any more cues?

Thanks!

Dan

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3AIT&viewitem=

So does this listing appear to be for an LT1 or LS1?
(this is the transmission that I am supposed to be buying next weekend, but am not convinced it's from an '00 or '02 Camaro)

That is for an LT1. Notice the portion in the middle left side of the Front Plate that is notched out..

Attached is a pic of my LS1 Tranny..look very closely at the Front Plate, notice the 2 little portions notched out in the upper left of it.

It really doesnt matter, I put an LS1 transmission in a 97 LT1 camaro. The only thing I had to change was the imput shaft from the LT1 tranny to the LS tranny and it works fine. The guy has been driving it for acouple of years now.
