Default Rearend and Tranny Fluid change.?

This is an ultra noob question, but I'll ask anyway since I need to learn. I'm about to change the fluid in the rear end (which has a summit cover on it thank goodness) and the fluid on my t56. My question is, the way the fill holes are positioned, I'm doubting it's possible to pour the fluid in them straight from the spout, how do you guys manage to fill them up with minimum spillage? thanks.

The gear oil bottle will have a pointed nozzle on them, you cut the tip off and stick it in the fill hole and squeeze the oil in the rear end and trans.

You can buy those for 3-4 bucks at a parts store and it will def make it easier, especially for the tranny (I poured mine in through the shifter when I did it) or you can just try to stab the pointed nozzle in and squeeze like Conan said. I assume you have a drain plug on the rear so you don't have to take off the cover to drain the thing.

Pick up one of those cheap hand pumps from the auto parts store.. It works great on the trans, and should work good for the rear as well.

Alright, after wasting $5 worth of fluid by spilling it when trying to shove the nozel up the fill hole, I threw down the $10 for the hand pump... made things a bit easier. The old fluid that drained out didn't seem bad at all (was not black) and was a purplish/reddish color, does anyone know what kinda fluid it could have been? Anyway, put in 4 quarts of pennzoil synchromesh and don't notice anything different at all, but was more for peace of mind really. Is it even necessary to change the fluid on the rear yet? My car has only 55k miles on it, and the rear is supposedly from an 02 SS with around 16k miles on it.

it wont hurt anything to change it. make sure you change the blinker fluid too.
