Definition of Chevy "Generations" Current threads again confirm that site users have different definitions of Chev "generations." Ask 100 users and you will get various answers on the definition of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gen. You would think we could at least agree on that issue? Should we call GM and ask them?

Gen 1 67-69
Gen-2 701/2-81
Gen-3 82-92
Gen-4 93-02
Each "generation" is built on the same platform, thus the differance between them.

Spoke with GM, who says it goes as follows for Camaro gens:
Gen 1 = 67/69
Gen 2 = 70/81
Gen 3 = 82/91
Gen 4 = 92/02
Live and learn boys.

91 and 92 where the same car with misc small things changed
The new body style and LT1 appeared in 93
98 and up appeared with new fascia and the LS1
I'd double check my sources within GM if I were you.

Re: Definition of Chevy Your apparent embarrasement is not surprising. I actually called Detroit, but you can also see this same info on p. 92 of the March 2002 issue Chevy High Performance. Rather than posting ugly messages, just accept the facts. It's not that big of a deal.

Re: Definition of Chevy Hmm, it seems you disagree with the Chevy spokesman, and the editors of Chevy High Performance mag. At a minimum, this confirms the varying opinions on the topic, just I said in the first post.
I wonder how much disagreement I would raise if I asked for views on the definitions of the different "generations of SBC engines?" I assure you there would be just as much disagreement on that topic.

Re: Definition of Chevy I think you could take a poll here at LS1Tech and 99% would agree that a '92 model is not a 4th gen. The other 1% are dumbass Chevy spokespeople and magazine writers.

Re: Definition of Chevy As of this moment, I don't have a firm opinion either way. But I do have a vague recollection that the 92 is distinct from the 91, and had features that evolved into the LT1. Frankly, it amounts to little more than trivia.

Re: Definition of Chevy Stealth, I had friends that had '92s. There was nothing drastically different than the '91s. It was the last year of the old bodystyle. The '93s have the current bodystyle (but of course there have been changes made over the years.)
