Default What should I do with this E-cutout??!?!

Real quick, I've got a new stainless QTP cutout and a used McCord E-plate. My vehicle has a SLP dual-dual exhaust (I think [it has a resonator in place of a muffler])

I took it to a reputable place here in pgh and they told me it isn't worth putting on because:
1) No power increase
2) Ground clearance issue (my car has the lowered bilstein setup)

Now should I sell it or put it on the resonator? And if I sell it, how much is it worth?

Thanks,
Josh

Plently of people have them. Ground clearance sucks with these cars anyways. If you have a good, free-flowing exhaust it won't help much with power. It does add a lot of noise. I say go ahead and install it in the i-pipe.

At the axle arch it will cost no ground clearance.
You will probably only see torque gain above 5000
RPM (that's what I logged, stockish). The more you
open up the breathing elsewhere (cam, heads,
intake, etc.) the more the cutout will help. Stock,
it's a very modest gain and only at top end.

You might just save it for later, if you have plans
to mod up that would take better advantage of it.

1)If you look at any dyno graphs of aftermarket exhausts with e-cutouts open vs. closed you will see that there are at least 5 hp and tq. to be gained with a cutout.

2) IMO I'd place the cut-out before the resonator. Since you say resonator I'm guessin its the LM1 system. and do the best the shop can to tuck it up as far as possible. I'm sure others will post pics of this done on a lowered car.

Yes. All the applications I've seen on cat-back y-pipe equipped cars were placed on the i-pipe several inches before the resonator.

I'd be pissed if a shop told me what they told you. I'd honestly take it to a different shop and get someone else to do it. They aren't worth your money if they are going to question what you are wanting to do. you shouldn't have much of a problem ground clearance wise if the guy doing the job can keep it tucked as much as possible. There is a good spot in the Y pipe a little after where the Y pipe and I pipe meet that it will fit nicely in. It's almost as if the part of the under body was made specifically for a cut out to be installed there.

i have one and my car is lowered at least an 1" and i never hit any of my exhaust on the ground. I have a cam only car and my car gained 6hp with a cutout open on back to back dyno's the same day.

Stupid shop??? LOL.

I didn't know our shop was stupid. I made a recommendation of stepping up to headers and an aftermarket Y-pipe rather than just the cutout, by no means did I tell him what to do with his car.

Ya man, their shop is freaking legit. Some of the projects going on inside were insane.

uh, go somewhere else or do it yourself. My exhaust is a 20rwhp difference between it open or closed. Its a open dump on the Y pipe, use your ******* head! OF course it will add power, and with the more mods you do itll just grow more. Just hope that qtp doesnt die because they don't have the awesome warranty like dmh does! I mean that to, I love my dmh

I dont see it opening up more than just a few horsepower going through the factory manifolds and factory cats. That resonator cannot have that much restriction in it.

for all of you who doubt the shop. Heres a few cars in the shop right now.

Well I have dyno sheets to prove going through stock exhausts a cutout opens up around 20rwhp. So you could say what you want but.. paper doesn't lie.

Through stock manifolds and stock cats? hard to believe, very hard to believe.

Sry mine was with headers and a stock catback but u have no restriction when you have a cutout. It's one of the most worth it mods out there I don't see how you could even argue with the gains on them.

that was actually an LS2. The chassis it was in is actually a GTM chassis. Which would be the same as the last car pictured.

Feel free to stop by anytime to check the projects out, or if you want to shoot around ideas about some mods.
