I'm pulling the axles on my 2001 Formula to put longer studs in them. My question which seems to have 50-50 yes and no's is what is best to use for gear lube, Synthetic or standard and what weight should I use. Also do I need to use a posi additive? I have 3.73's and tend to do a lot of drag racing with it and I drive it on the street also. Thanks.

I don't have the window sticker to my current '02 WS6 TA but it also has a
Torsen.

Yeah, I'm a little confused because the Torsen also comes in limited slip (LSD). The '01 Firebird I had with the performance package 3:42 gearing clearly states on the window sticker Torsen limited slip rear as a part of the performance option. I saved the window sticker.

A4 GU5 3.23 Optional (standard gear set with an SS/WS6/Firehawk)
28 Spline Axle 10 bolt rear end

I have a g80 in my Z-71. It locks mechanically so no additive(friction modifier) is needed. The Torsen locks mechanically too so no additive needed.
The Auburn LSD uses clutches to get power to both rear wheels so the additive IS needed. I only use the GM stuff too ($7).
It is up to YOU whether to run synth or not. I have 42k running synth in mine.
I will admit it is getting noisy but that is from the MT/DR's

WHat high performance package are you talking about? All M6's got 3.42 all had the same diff, the only optional cars you could get different diffs in were the SS and Hawk, If you have a auto WS6 you have 3.23 gears and if its a M6 you have the same 3.42s that all others cars came with.. There was no special "performance package" for gears...

You are correct that my current '02 WS6 Auto has 3.23 gearing from the factory

Oh, and that '01 Firebird with the performance package 3.42's was a A-4 auto too. Damn low geared for the freeway. I'll scan the factory sticker for you later, got to go to work now.

Well, after not coming up with an agreement of the minds I went to Advanced Auto and Car Quest who both plugged in replacement lube and the verdict was SYNTHETIC 75/90 LS with a posi additive. So I went with that suggestion and purchased MOBIL 1 Syn. + Add. Thanks for the help, I appreciated all the feedback.

Didn't mean to get off subject for this thread but here is a link about the package and a door sticker, just in case anyone is interested.

This was my old car's door sticker, traded it for the TA.
