Default budget 400rwhp build, HELP!

So I bought a ls1 and t56 with 33k out of a 01 camaro. The engine is completely stock except an ls2 intake. So! I want 400rwhp n/a. I know heads/cam/intake is the way to go, but what is the cheapest, most reliable way to go??

So far a head/cam combo from tsp seems like the best option, but i cant seem to find much about the 5.3l heads from prc.

what intake would be best?

Also, roller rockers? ...i know i need them, but dont know what to get.

The car is going to mostly a street car, going to the stip maybe once a month.

any help is much appreciated

Looking for 400 to the tires and still keeping it extremely streetable, I would recommend going 228R camshaft on a 112 LSA and a set of PRC 2.5 5.3L heads. The Stg. 2.5 LS6 heads would probably squeeze out a bit more power but they would be an additional $200+ to do so. With the right bolt-on mods, this H/C combo should have no problem going over 400 RWHP.

Definitely get the basic bolt-ons for the car. LT headers and a good catback or cutout along with a lid are good things to grab up front. You could swap to an LS6 intake if the car really has a LS2 intake. You can always find them pretty cheap used. An UD pulley is an easy 8 RWHP but I don't think the car will need it to hit the kind of power you are wanting. Leave the factory rockers on as well. There is NO need to swap to aftermarket rockers. The stock ones will do everything you need them to do!

Let me know what you think. We can definitely get you everything you need to reach your goals!

There are plenty of GOOD, Streetable, cams that can do damn near 400 w/o even touching the heads.

Had it been not for the rear and D/S my VRx4 from Vengence would be near that RWHP #.

** I think he ment to say LS6 which is fine either way. Having supporting mods and a good tuner is half the battle. IF the heads need to be worked then thats another way to get power as you can mill the heads and have them flow a little bit better.

But do not kid yourself, a Cam is going to give you the majority of your increase.

If it is an LS2 intake then it may not be worth it to spend the money on an LS6 intake. The LS6 does flow better than the LS2 but not by much. Like said before you can get an underdrive pulley and gain around 8rwhp which would make up the difference between the LS2 and LS6 intake for roughly half of the cost. Then later on you can make the upgrade to an LS6 or a Fast when you have more money available to you.

LS2 intakes are 4-bolt intake. That is either an LS1 or LS6 intake. A 2001 car should have come with an LS6 from the factory. I would look into it.

Seeing that there is no EGR it is probably an LS6 intake, especially since it is off of an '01. If it is a LS1 intake w/o EGR then you have to pull the intake and look at the bottom.. If it is flat then it is an LS6, if it is curved then it is an LS1.

...............................LS6 Intake...................................LS1 Intake

Best way to do it is obviously check the part number...

LS1 intake manifold, with EGR (98-00 F-body) = 12561269 (formerly 12560688)
LS1 intake manifold, no EGR (from 97-00 Corvette) = 88894095 (formerly 12557846, 12556333)

01/02 F-body LS6 Intake Manifold = 12561184
LS2 intake manifold = 89017648 or = 12589181.

All of this info did come from LS1tech..

Thanks a lot, I'll check the part numbers tomorrow.

Any opinions on the 228R camshaft with a 112 LSA and a set of PRC 2.5 5.3L, or ls6 heads?? I'm thinkin thats the way I'm going to go.
