Default Long Tubes VS Shortys

What is the diffrence between the two? Most people use long tube headers but what is the benefit of them compaired to short tubes? sound? performance? clearance maybe? Im looking to buy headers over the winter while my car is put it so i an put them on when the snow melts but i want to make the right decision.

why choose long tubes over shortys?

shorty's first off are overpriced and will not net you any power ( 5hp maybe 10 at most) A set of long tubes will net you 30+. Also anyone on here will tell you that long tubes really wakes these cars up both in hp and in sound. I have no ground clearance with pacesetter long tubes

^^^ what he said. Shorties are like slightly better flowing exhaust manifolds, long tubes flow much better, plus they have the scavenging affect. if you don't get the old SLP long tubes you should have no problems with ground clearance.

yes shorties are a waste of money for the most part. If you keep your ride at or near the factory ride height you shouldn't have clearance problems, except possibly as mentioned with the old SLP longtubes.

FWIW I had sportlines ( ~2 inch drop), and have the Edelbrock series headers and y pipe... the y pipe seems to hang a bit lower than others, on top of the pretty much hte lowest you can drop your car without air bags, and i was always able to find ways in and out of driveways with scraping too much. i just had to avoid speed bumps

I am lowered 1.2" and take every speed bump at an angle an enter /exit driveways the same and scraping is a non issue,,,,

What I find interesting is: Where are the "back to back" dyno tests to show this?

Oh yeah, here's one:

Black is manifolds
Blue is Shorties
Red are the long tubes.

+1 with what he said. If you going to do it, do it right the first time and be done with it.

Shorties are worthless and a waste of time. LT's or stay stock.

Def get Long Tubes. The sound and hp gain is def worth the money. Make sure you replace the cats with high-flow ones if emission laws are an issue in your state.

Long tubes it is! i thought they where better but i didnt know they were THAT much better. seems like pacesetters are the most affordable. anybody know any issues with them? i plan on getting pacesetter long tubes with a pacesetter y pipe. not sure if im going catted or non-catted.

I had pacesetter's on my old trans am with TSP true dual system and didn't have an problem with the headers but I had a problem with the clearence of the TSP true dual. Me I would say Kook's LT and catted Y I'm baised. But I've heard nothing but good things about ARH headers and QTP. I don't know much about LPP headers but I've heard alot of good things about them for the money and quality except you will have to put a hanger on the drivers side to keep the Y pipe from hitting the floor board. An seeing you have an SLP LM you might want to get whatever you want to get catted.

I gained 32rwhp going to LTs on my H/C car. went from 393 to 425 with no other mods. It wasnt back to back but there was only a week between the two dyno sessions. I wont say shorties are worthless especially if your trying to stay cali legal, but if you can afford to go LT's.

LPP should be the way to do for you. In your area you def. need stainless and they are excellent especially for the money
