Default Do you warm your car up before you drive?

When the engine is cold do you warm it up and then drive it? Is there any problems when doing this? I used to warm it up for about 5 mins then drive, but now I start it and drive it. I shift at 1500 rpms and wait until it gets to normal operating temps before I smash on it.

I always warm mine up, but it's not a DD either. The few times I haven't warmed it up, like you, I shift around 1500 until it's warmed.

Nope. The owner's manual says something along the lines of waiting a few moments after starting the car and then driving off carefully, and that's good enough for me. I think anything outside of that is a waste of time and gas...

I always let it run for about 5 or 10 minutes before I drive.... always heard its not good for titanium retainers to run much above idle until they are atleast warm.

Only if it is well below operating temps. If it sits out all night I let it warm up, or if its really really cold and sits for around 3-4 hours.

I let my dogs out in the morning and as I go out I start it.. By the time I am done they are done with their business (they know to hurry when I start the car) and I bring them back in and then leave. Warm up is anywhere from 3-8 minutes depending on what I do when I come back in.

The faster you get it to operating temp, the better.

Fire it up, idle for a few seconds, and drive away.

Just keep the RPM's low until it warms up.

this is what I do...the rare times it does get cold down here I let it get to closed loop, find its idle and keep the RPM's down.

I just let it go into closed loop and then just keep rpms down. Takes a couple of minutes.

I just drive it easily until the water and oil temps get to normal temps. Then I stab the loud pedal.

So long as you take it real easy until it's at operating temp you can start it and go. Operating temp is NOT when the temp guage reads 210 (or whatever your happens to read). It takes a good 10 mins of run time for the entire motor and it's parts to reach operating temp. An automatic transmission takes even longer usually a good 10 mins more than the motor.

I do for a few seconds while the car "wakes up". The cam doesn't like an immediate take-off.

I let it warm up for a few minutes on really cold days, then drive very slowly (shifting at low RPM's like some others have said) until it is completely warmed up. If the car isn't completely cold, or it is warm outside, I let it sit for a minute tops.

TRUTH... just drive easy and don't WOT it until oil temp is 190* you will be fine. I tell by by my oil presure at idle getting down to about 45lb. as that as about as low as it will ge in winter.... I see as low as 42 or so in summer... This tells me my oil is warm....

In the summer/ normal temps I give it ~30 sec minimum if not more. I'm lucky in that the first few miles from my house are mostly down hill, and no stops. I drive really slow down the driveway and the road a little bit so the wheel bearings warm up a tiny bit, diff and trans oil has a chance to hit critical parts before they get spinning really fast, stuff like that. Yea, I'm a little **** about that stuff and it might not make any difference at all, but im not gonna stop lol.

I slowly get the car up to speed and throw it in neutral for the 1 mile of downhills, so that's part of the warm up too I guess.
