Default CHEAPEST way of getting 500 HP?

Hello guys, I was wondering what the cheapest way to get the LS1 up to/near 500 HP? 1999 WS.6. If you could list the parts and the overall price i'd greatly appreciate it. Thx

150 shot of nitrous would do it. Less than $1000 for a good kit. If you aren't quite at 500 fwhp with that, the cheaper mods would probably get you there. Like a lid, free mods, cut out. With all that plus a 150 shot, you'll most likely be at 500.

If you want 500 RWHP, that'll be more $.

500hp would be easy with some juice. Don't expect and stock parts to live under 500hp.

Cut-out probably. Like an electric one from QTP ---->

Pretty much anything you do to increase horsepower will decrease the life of your engine. That's just the way things are.

Nitrous is dangerous if you do it wrong. Do it right, and its just as safe as any other way to make 500 hp.

A safe and smart application of nitrous is completely harmless for your car once you start getting foolish with it is when it starts turning dangerous. The cheapest way to do 500 RWHP would prob be all bolt ons and 100-150 shot. Good Luck

*sighs*

1. what tranny do you have
2. what mods do you currently have
3. is this car gonna be a daily or track car
4. do you have a shitload of money
5. do you want rwhp or crank hp

take the time to sit down and anwer those questions. it'll go a long way.

another thing, take the time to read the great threads that we already have here, the internal section, and the external section. that will also go along way to helping you out and see what it really takes to hit a certain number or what mods are better suited for different applications.

My .02

If the car is auto, a shift-kit is a must and even possibly some beefing up of the trans. If the car is manual, a clutch is a must. Thats the staring point and there is no way around it. It's a fact of life. No stock LS1 drivetrain is going to handle 500HP crank or RW. You need a stronger rear-end for that. Strange or Moser are the best in their area.

Now, assuming your car is not beat, with 300K miles on it, this what I think could bring you up to your level which would kick some major you know what.

-FLP or SLP 1 3/4" LT tube headers.

-3" exhaust cat-back. Don't know anything about cut-outs or care to.

-TNT or Nitrous Works N20 Kits. Properly installed with ALL options by company you choose to go with and MSD window switches etc.

-Walbro 255LPH IN-tank. You need this for safety and actually does help in performance in the top end.

-A quality airbox set-up. Lid, bellow, airfilter. When your following air to produce 500HP this little stuff DOES work.

-Computer program spefically for your car using edit.

-Of course the smaller stuff. Thermo, pulley,

That should get you to 500 @ the crank. Any more and you will have to crack open that intake manifold.

Just remember that 500HP doesnt mean if you cant put that to the ground. It would kill for sure on the highway though.

HAHA let me throw my 2 cents in.

Have money in reserve for a tranny rebuild (might as well call it 2,000 bucks for a Level 4 tranny from FLP)

And a Moser 12 bolt rearend, (another 2 grand easy)

Let's hope you don't lean out and blow your engine, you should be ok IF you're tuned right. Let a pro install and tune for ya.

If you are gonna do this, start out with all bolt on's, these will make your more effective mods more efficient you should do Lid/catback, LT's, Converter(if A4) shift kit, tranny cooler, some beefier tires to hook that power. Now you have a good foundation for other more serious mods. Good Luck

As far as headers, he said he wanted to do this cheaply. He sure isn't going to get any FLP headers for cheap. Stick with Eldebrock headers, Pacesetters, or Jet Hots, or Hookers. Eldebrocks being your best bet if you are going to spray, & around $300. Race merge collector already on it & 3.5" collector. Your nitrous will love you.

A good cam, longtube headers, upgraded MAF sensor,a good catback exhaust and 150 should get you well over 500 to the rear wheels

I don't recomend or use cheap parts and thats why I recomended the parts I did. You get what you pay for. And as far as cheap, cheap and fast don't go hand-in-hand. At least I have never seen or heard of it. And if something is 1/2 assed as in running 1000HP on a stock driveline etc., you MAY be able to get away w/ it but something will go wrong or break, just like it always does.
