ls1 camaro/transam long lasting? or not...? im wanting to buy a ls1 camaro or trans am but most the ones i find r at over 100k miles.. these cars known to have good long lasting engines trannys(m6)(a4) rear ends? i want one just as a daily driver home-work work-home my truck kills me with gas.. you guys think it would be ok to buy one with 100k+ or am i gonna be having lots of problems?

Mine has 116 on it and its still going strong. It did have the trans rebuilt at 110 but it still has the original rear. No crazy problems yet. Find one that is not modded too much. Normally those haven't been dogged as much.

A stock LS1 motor that has been well maintained should have no problem hitting 200k, maybe more.
The stock trans (auto) usually needs a rebuild around 100-130k, but of course it could go much sooner if the car was driven hard.
My main concern isn't the miles, but how well it was maintained. I don't worry in the least about my near-100k mile LS1, but that's because I know I've taken care of it. I'd be much more leary of someone else's 100k mile car though (not just an LS1, any car really).

I get calls all the time with guys just now starting to mod 100k+ mile cars. Like mentioned above, if the car has been well maintained, the motors don't have a problem with that kind of mileage. Run some compression and leakdown numbers on whatever car you are looking and and that should tell you a lot about the motor and what kind of condition it is in.

I bought a 98 formula about a month ago. Yesterday my brother and I took out my 02 ws6 and raced both cars from a roll. Both cars stock. The formula has lived a hard life 142k but the ws6 55k miles and well maintained by me. I put 4 car lengths twice on the ws6 with the formula!

I just rolled 100k last week in my '01 and its as strong as ever! Just keep up with your basic maintenance and you'll be fine. I celebrated 100k by flushing and replacing all my fluids! Yay!

I daily drive my 98 LS1 6 speed winter and all . it has over 183K original motor/trans. Runs and drives like new. you would never know it had that many miles. It's all about how they were taken care of.

Exactly. It's nice to see some other high mileage f-bodys on the road other than mine!

116K on mine...stock clutch made it to 110K if memory serves (was still working fine..just didn't want to pay for a tow someday)...slave started leaking a few thousand miles before the clutch. Everything else is original (save for tires and the usual replacement items) and working perfect.
