Follow that guide Pheer posted as a bible and you will be good to go. I did my first cam swap last year when I was 18 with no real special automotive knowledge, just the basics. (oil, brakes, etc.) Its really not too hard at all.

from what i hear, motor mounts is the hardest (or at least the most frustrating, that's for sure) thing to do on these cars, cam seems simple enough (it'll be a while before i have funds for it)

Ls1howto.com is great. I just finished up my first cam/intake swap.(MS4/LS6) It is alot easer than it looks. PLus if you get stuck you can do a search on here to get you out of a bind.(thats what I did when it came to fabing tools and what not) Just dont be in a hurry. Good luck

I used 5/16 wooden rod from Lowes it was .76 cents cut to 22" long and used air/leak down tester to hold up valves. Valve spring tool was a 9.95 autozone moded like the one shown on ls1howto.com I think I had less than 60.00 dollars in making my tools.(I know there is better tools out there but I am on a budget and this worked well for me)

But please don't put your balancer on with the old pulley bolt unless you want to risk stripping your crank threads. Make one these seen on post # 3. >> https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ly-puller.html

PM vettenuts and he will tell you the thread count for the threaded rod needed.....

To hold the lifters up I used a wooden dowl that you can get anywhere really. (home depot, lowes, hardware stores, etc.) Either 5/16'' or 3/8''.

As for a tool to hold the valvesprings down, I bought a specialty tool made by Thunder Racing for $140. It was pricey and I didnt wanna buy it but it worked very well.

5/8's dowl rounded on the end like a broom handle to help it slip in.

Not positive on the TR tool but if IIRC it does one spring at a time. I think Speed Inc. sells a knock off of the old crane tool which does two springs at a time and really makes thing easier. Crane is back in business so maybe you can still get one from them.....

To remove the pulley, you don't use a bolt. The new bolt vs old bolt is for reinstallation of the pulley.

I rented a 3 arm puller from autozone. It worked great.

From what I understand, you don't time anything. Provided it all lines up then you need to look into getting the computer adjusted.
