Default Deleting AIR? EGR?

I have searched and read all over here about this. I have found countless threads on how to do these deletes. But my question is, what is the benefit of removing AIR and EGR? Additionally, I have a 2002, and as I understand it, these systms differ from year to year or are not there in some cases? Can someone please clear this up for me?

Also, can someone please explain why lids for 00-02s have a hose connected to the side? What is that? The whisper lid requires some little filter because of it? Please help me understand.

I'm bone stock right now and plan to do lid, free ram air mod, throttle body bypass and a cat-back soon. Then in the next year or so I will do headers with cats, plugs and wires. I plan to keep cats because I want to stay legal.

Thanks for any help.

No real benefit other than to de-clutter the eingine compartment. If you don't have emissions sniffer tests then you don't technically need them. Just pull the components out. But the EGR you will have to have tuned to delete it, or you will have a check engine light. From what I've heard, there are also timing tables programed into the ECU for the EGR, but I'm not sure.

And the hose from the Lid is the intake for the AIR pump. My 2000 had it. I deleted the AIR and EGR systems. I couldn't find anything to plug the hole in my lid, but I DID find a little plastic flush-fit plug at NAPA that I just superglued in place to cover the hole. Works like a charm and doesn't look rigged.

If you have a sniffer test, it MAY be a stretch to pass the sniffer. You can try it with the LT's and cats, but keep you stock stuff just in case it doesn't pass. Leave the EGR on for now. Most Emissions places will automatically fail you if you have a check engine light on. The Air pump, I don't think will set a code.

-=EDIT=- Oh, your in Alba-crazy?? I lived in Alamogordo for about five years. I yanked all my emissions stuff there. Do they just have a smog test up there?

I think it's just a smog test. I am not sure, only lived here about 6 months.

I'm leaning toward just leaving it all alone and maybe worry about it when I get headers, because I'll get a tune at that point anyways and can get all the codes deleted. Doesn't seem worth messing with any of it, even the TB bypass on just a lid/cat-back car.

What to plug hole with. I used the chrysler master cylinder seal. works great.

Can I just get the lid that doesn't have the hole? and then put a little filter on the air pump? Isn't that what they talk about here for the whisper lid?:

EGR removal would eliminate the "pecker" that sticks
into the manifold throat, but you can also just trim
that back. EGR provides you some MPG benefit at low
pedal. Aesthetics aside. '98-'99 cars could see some
minor improvement by swapping to '00 manifolds if
in a smog-visual state and not wanting to spring for
an E/O'd shorty.

AIR is just about Big Brother and the baby seals, if you
can eliminate codes then put it in a box (because Big
Brother is only sleeping). It has zero performance impact
but will lose you 5lb or so of nose weight.
