Default Cat converter self destructing, good replacement?

Ok so my left cat converter is blowing out chunks, prolly did it a lil too harsh with a seafoam treatment awhile back while trying to fix my misfire.. Anywho, looking to get a pair of new ones as well as E-cutouts, need something to do while on vacation in Virginia.. Been looking at rockauto.com, they seem to have amazing prices, already ordering new o2s from them.. So any suggestions on cats to buy and from who, as well as a good set of E-Cutouts ( i can do the wiring, but if installation isn't bolt on, a good yet not so pricey exhaust shop recommendation in VA would be nice )

Any questions, feel free to ask! An if i say something dumb, im still kinda a car tech newbie yet loving getting my hands dirty..

Question 1: Why does Sea Foam kill cats? Does it create some kinde of fireball due to it's makeup that blasts out exhaust port? or......?

Question 2: Ory gives a good gain over stock? Anyone know a good number?

Question 3: Provided i get a good deal on cats o2 and cutouts.. I got a $500 budget for this repair, What could i do with money leftovers?

@JM0523: Hey the muddin redneck is still strong in me... And if smokey and the bandit can do it, I can too!!.. Should probably get a truck... then again i can **** off half the forums and put a tow hitch on the TA

@Lemons12: If you were closer, i would defiantly take you on the offer.. Still might depending on the answer to question 2

Unless you live somewhere that has strict emissions and requires cats (IE. Cal) then I would definitely upgrade, don't blow money going back to stock.

If it were me, this is what I would do.

http://texas-speed.com/shop/item.asp...d=182&catid=45
Select:
No exhaust gasket
Race style- No EGR (unless you have strict emissions, check yourself on this)
TR-55 plugs
TSP 3" ORY
Plug/play extensions

That comes out to 536$... You can pick up a cutout (all you need is a single in the Ypipe under the RR seat) from Summit/Jegs for 30$ and have someone weld it on for cheap (You don't have to do this right now, just when you are ready for it to be louder). If you decide you want it quieter or a different tone (some LOVE cutouts, some HATE cutouts) then you can buy your muffler of choice later on.

Now you now longer have a stock car... You have a full exhaust car that actually sounds mean. You are looking at about a 30-40Rwhp gain over stock (50+HP).

IMO I can't think of a better solution. Not to mention you can sell your stock stuff for a little bit of money.

Of course that is the "Cheap" and best bang for your buck route. If you want to go with higher quality parts (Kooks LTs/ORY or some other type of stainless header/etc it is going to cost you).

I will sell you my Kooks ORY/cutout/magnaflow (all stainless) but you still need headers (will put you over 500$ but you will have a very nice exhaust setup.

Here is the painted Pacesetter headers... I meant to post these ^^^^.. The other ones are coated (will look a little better and hold up from rusting a little bit better, depends on how much snow/etc you get and if it is parked inside/outside).
http://texas-speed.com/shop/item.asp...d=976&catid=45

This is the cheapest route. 426$ and you can do this yourself on the ground in about 4-8 hours with simple tools depending on how mechanically inclined you are.

Mine is a manual cutout (crawl under the car)... I don't see the need in spending 100+$ on something (that could and often does malfunction) when I can do it myself in about 25 seconds from the time that I pick up the wrench. My car (Trans Am) is lowered 1.25" on BMRs and I can still fit in there just fine to take it on/off. Mine stays closed most of the time though unless I am at the track or know I will be racing.

Ive never closed mine haha, yea i spent $30 at one of our local muffler shops and he fabbed me up a cutout and cap, it made a huge difference on my car, i capped mine the other day and couldnt believe how much of a choked up pig it was.

Seafoam doesn't kill cats, at least not to causing them to physically come apart. It could conceivably clog them up, but the catalyst material coming apart is just a symptom of age.

Depending on the muffler there sometimes is only a few HP difference open and closed. I see zero gain at track wig mine. I have magnaflow.

The main reason I need an e cutout is because im military, to make it worse on the base where they train military police.. without it closed all the time I would get crazy tickets, yet soon as off post would be nice when this other gis do their funny river revs next to me, press button an get loud. Aestetics really. Butat same time would like a proper.. functioning car
